06/28/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/28/16 15:28 BASIC INFO Rambo A1079162 and Bridgett A1079163 are American Pitbull Mixes. They are being surrendered to the shelter because the person who had them, has dementia and cannot properly care for them. The son stated that he has no idea where the dogs came from. He stated that either they followed his mother home after feeding them, or someone gave them to her. They were very well behaved and were fed pedigree dry food. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Rambo and Bridgett allowed all handling, collaring and photos.
WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Handsome brindle boy Rambo was waiting patiently in his kennel for a walk. He pulls on the leash a bit until he finds the right spot on which to go potty, and then settles nicely on leash. He’s compact, slender and sweet. At first Rambo didn’t like my treats, but second sniff and taste won him over and he took my treats with the softest mouth. Snuggles? Well, if you insist I guess we could do that! As we were taking some photos a small yappy dog lunged toward us and Rambo reacted in kind, but other than that ignored other dogs we passed on our walk. When our time was done he hopped back into his kennel like a gentleman. Quiet and reserved during our time together, Rambo is nothing like his namesake. He’s just a guy who wants to enjoy nice walks, some good treats and a soft place to lay his head.
07/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
7/1 update: Rambo has shown concerning behaviors with other dogs when both on-leash and off. When interacting off-leash Rambo escalates once offered an appropriate correction, growling and snapping and is unable to be distracted by handlers. He will exhibit those same behaviors when walking past other dogs in the care center as well as when dogs are walking past him in his kennel. He remains in a state of arousal for an extended period of time once the other dogs have passed and continues to bark and growl. Rambo did not show any concern during the behavior assessment but he became uncomfortable around other dogs the behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. 6/30 SAFER: Rambo walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Rambo followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag. He took the toy away with a soft body language. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, ears back, wagging tail. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup notes: Rambo is tense when greeted. He attempts to mount the female greeter. When he offers correction, he escalates by growling, snapping, and running after the other dog. This is interrupted by human handlers, and Rambo is escorted out the pen.
06/29/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Rambo is tense when greeted. He attempts to mount the female greeter. When she offers correction, he escalates by growling, snapping, and running after the other dog. This is interrupted by human handlers, and Rambo is escorted out the pen. He arrived to the care center as a stray with a female dog, but any in-home behaviors are unknown. The behavior department recommends not placing Rambo into a home with another dog until these behaviors can be followed up on.
