Ralphie came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He was calm upon intake and during his initial medical exam, allowed all handling, but startled easily. He barked at assessor upon entering SAFER assessment room. During Look he pulled his head out of the assessor’s hand three times. He leaned in during Sensitivty, body loose, mouthing the assessor’s hand. For Tag he became highly aroused, biting at the assessor’s feet whenever she moved. Tag was stopped and the rest of the handling was omitted. He became stiff for Toy. When off leash with other dogs Ralphie greets politely and will offer correction to an exuberant dog. He will otherwise spend his time exploring the yard. The Behavior Team recommends that Ralphie be placed with a New Hope partner which can work with his high energy and behavioral needs. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth, mouthing Assessor’s hand. Tag: 5. Dog growls or tries to bite. Toy 1: 3. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Ralphie greets politely and will offer correction to an exuberant dog. He will otherwise spend his time exploring the yard.
