04/28/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Quinny looks like a little Alf, and in many ways he acts like he’s just crash-landed on a foreign planet. His first impressions might need a little work, but he warms up nicely to a familiar face. He solicits my attention from his cage and wags his tail when I approach. He was a little unsure of my slip lead the first time I walked him, but was easily lured in with some treats (he takes them nicely). He has good leash manners and enjoys exploring outside, but gets a little timid if we encounter something unexpected like a discarded tire in our path or a loud noise in the distance. He isn’t cuddly just yet, but if I call him over when he’s off leash he comes, wags his tail when I do some more baby talking, lets me scratch him on his back, sniffs my face as if he’s toying with the idea of giving me a kiss, and then goes off on his way. Not ready to give kisses yet, adorable little Quinny does seem to want to trust and connect. He’s at Brooklyn ACC hoping for a spaceship that can show him the way to a home!
04/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Quinny came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Quinny had stiff body posture, no handling was conducted at this time. During SAFER Quinny came into the assessment room nervous and tense, he was not interested with the assessor. No handling items were able to be conducted as Quinny growled and lip curled at the assessor when attempting to get close to him. He displayed no interest in the toy item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Quinny is uncomfortable, greeting stiffly and displaying lip curls. He sniffed the helper dog then wandered the pen.
