12/16/16 19:57 Basic Information: Purp (short for purple) is an 8 year old Pit mix that is being surrendered due to landlord issues. The owner did mention that he may have had kindey stones 6 months ago, but does not have access to the vet paperwork. Socialization Purple is social and friendly with strangers. He has also spent time with children of all ages and allows the children to handle his ears and touch him roughly. He is very gentle and just lays there when kids are around. He has lived with two small breed dogs (male and female unaltered) and he plays gently with them. However, he will bark, lunge and growl at dogs he does not know. Owner received him with multiple wounds all over his face and body 7-8 years ago and thinks he may have been attacked by larger dogs before she owned him. Purple has never lived or spent time with cats. Purp hunts and kills mice inside the apartment (not in the last 10 days). Behavior Purp has never bitten a person or another dog. He is very housebroken and can hold his urine for up to 12 hours. After this, he will have an accident. He allows his owner to touch his food bowl, treats, and toys while in use. He is well behaved during bath time and gets his nails trimmed by a groomer. He does bark if someone approaches the home, but will greet and try to play with the person when they come in. For a New family to know Purple is describe as a loving family dog with high energy. His favorite activity is going to the beach. He loves to swim in the ocean water and run on the sand. He has never been crate trained and does not destroy anything when left alone in the home. He knows the commands, sit, stay and come. He will come back when called while off leash. He does pull very hard on leash, but owner has never tried using a harness. He eats Purina Dog Chow dry and sleeps in the bed with the owner. Behavior during intake Purple was very interested in his surroundings and explored the office. He sat down when asked and allowed the counselors to pet, photograph and collar.
12/21/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I think I could compile a book called The Dog Purple filled with love letters from everyone that’s done so much as just look at this guy. He is not only the most adorable little gentleman, but the sweetest too! He always makes lovey-dovey eye contact with his beautiful blue eyes, is very wiggly, and often holds his head and ears like a submissive little seal. He seems housebroken, pulls some on leash (so much to catch up on outside!), and loves to play fetch. He’s a good listener, knows basic commands, has been very well-mannered with me despite having a fair amount of energy, and just has such a sweet, genuine way about him. His previous owner confirms his dreamboat status and tells us that he is very gentle with children (even if they aren’t showing him the respect he deserves!), lived harmoniously with two little dogs, and doesn’t destroy things when left alone. To top it all off, his favorite place is the beach and he “loves to swim in the ocean water and run on the sand.” With this guy at your side, it’d be impossible not to be part of the “enjoys long walks on the beach” crowd…he is impossibly sweet! Please come meet him for yourself at Brooklyn ACC, add a letter to my book, and wake up next to Purple tomorrow!
