09/26/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I fell for Purell the moment I first saw her doing a little wiggly dance in her cage, bashfully holding her black-masked face down and glancing up at me with those sweet eyes. She might be on the timid and submissive side, but she’s also on the sweeter than sweet side! She has been very easy to handle on our walks and looks up often, but sometimes lowers her body or wants to turn around if there’s sudden commotion. She is quiet in her cage, knows “sit” and seems to have housetraining. She LOVES to play fetch and is that rare kind of fetcher that (most of the time!) drops the ball right in my lap or hand. She seems overwhelmed by her current environment sometimes, but still manages to be waggy and very affectionate…truly a little sweetheart! Please come see her at Brooklyn ACC.
09/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE

Purell was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Purell was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. 09/18/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Purell was brought in as a stray so her past behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the care center, Purell was initially nervous when greeting a male dog. She attempts to solicit play, but displays conflicting play signals. She play bows while lip curling, barking and growling. With dogs that do not solicit play, Purell is social, checking in on them often as she explores the pen. The Behavior Department believes that Purell would be most comfortable as the only dog in the home, however a dog-dog interaction can be conducted with a potential adopter’s dog to assess Purell”s comfort level. 9/18: Purell is nervous around the helper dog and keeps her distance. She does eventually approach and exchanges a greeting then backs up, offers once play bow and bounce while lip curling at the helper dog. 9/21: In a group of calm male and female dogs, Purell displays bouncy body language as she socializes. She attempts to solicit play but displays conflicting behaviors. She play bows while lip curling and barking. 9/23: Purell continues to display conflicting play behaviors, playbowing while lip curling and growling. When the other dog continues to solicit play, Purell’s arousal level increases and she begins to chase him. The session is ended. 9/24: When solicited to play, Purell continues to display conflicting play signals.
