05/27/16 21:28 Pumpkin is a 5 year old Brown Brindle Pit-Bull Terrier that was given to owner as a gift. She is being surrendered into our facility due to owner having landlord issues. There are no known health injuries or concerns. Around strangers she is aggressive and will bark and growl; when she does play with adults she is exuberant. She lived with children age 1-13 years old and was tolerant; she barks at him nor do they interact. She lived with a Pekingese and was relaxed and plays very rough. She lives with a cat and is respectful; for cats that she isn’t familiar with she will bark and growl. She has bitten a person not within the last 10 days and no skin was punctured (see behavior). She has bitten another animal just stray cats which she isn’t familiar with. For behavior she does bark too much. During storms or fireworks she is nervous and tries to escape. When you touch her food bowl while she is eating she was growl, bark or snap. She is friendly when treats are taken away, and when objects or toys are taken she will playfully pull object or toy. She isn’t bothered when being taken off of furniture or getting a bath. She is afraid when he nails are being trimmed. Friendly when her coat is being brushed and isnt bothered when being held or restrained. When unfamiliar people approach you or the home she will bark; also when disturbed while sleeping she will bark. Pumpkin is described as being playful, pushy, and anxious with a low activity level that would do best in a home in a cage. She is protective and likes to run and fetch. She enjoys playing with toy balls and chew bones; and playing games such as tug, alert barking and guarding. She was mostly kept indoors and slept in a cage; he at Merrick dry food 2 cups at least 2 times a day. Her favorite treats are Greenies and Biscuits. She is house trained and rarely had accidents within the home. When left alone in the house she will bark, when left alone in the yard she barks. She is crate trained and can do well for 12 hours. She knows such commands as “sit” “come” “stay” and “down”. For exercise she plays in the yard and will pull hard on the leash. When off the leash sometimes she will wander and come when being called. During intake when Pumpkin saw counselor she started to growl and bark aggressively. Assistance was needed from client to handle scan (positive), and take photograph; wasn’t able to collar.

06/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Pumpkin previously lived with adults and children ages 1-13 years old. The owner stated around strangers Pumpkin is reactive and will bark and growl, with children the she was tolerant but barks at them nor do they interact. The owner mentioned Pumpkin lived with a small dog and a cat and was relaxed and playful towards but if she’s not familiar with the car she will bark and growl. It was reported by the owner when someone touches her food bowl while she is eating she was growl, bark or snap. The owner describes Pumpkin as playful, pushy, and anxious. She is house trained, crate trained and does well up to 12 hours and has a low activity level. Pumpkin has a previous bite history; she bit a stranger on their knee when she had gotten off the leash. She had growled before the bit and left red marks and scratches no skin was broken. At intake it was reported Pumpkin was barking and growling at the counselor, no handling was conducted. During SAFER Pumpkin came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was social towards the assessor with a slow approach. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Pumpkin was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Pumpkin was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some behavioral concerns and her previous bit history, the behavior department feels placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog pulls back her paw with her body a bit tense, and lip licks. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: According to Pumpkin’s previous owner, Pumpkin lived with a Pekingese and was relaxed and plays very rough. Here at the Care Center, Pumpkin lunged at the greeter dog and was muzzled before being allowed into the pen. Once in the pen, Pumpkin ran towards and lunged at the greeter dog’s neck.
