A volunteer writes:

Elderly Pumpkin is with us as her owner passed away…I doubt she was ever kenneled and of course, she barks in her den when she sees or hears  someone coming by . She is stressed but calms down as I pet her nose through the bars of her door. A soft treat  and Pumpkin is as  ready as can be, leashed in no time and off we are out the door. She is a great walker and does her business on the way. Stairs are ok with her, up and down. We near other dogs and Pumpkin seems fine with them.Pumpkin is quite good looking’. I love her sharp dark brown and mocca markings. Her coat is a little thin, though. Her eyes are still sharp. Her nails are long and her teeth have seen better days. I can imagine than an ailing owner must not have had easy to take care of a big dog… Pumpkin participated in a playgroup with other dogs. She was quite uncomfortable and the experience did not make her feel better.  Free in a pen, Pumpkin is a little nervous but comes when called, even sits for treats(she surely loves them) and stays by my side. She accepts caresses, looks at me from time to time..She is sooooo lost…Most of us, volunteers who have handled Pumpkin feel the same about her.We never had hard time or heard a growl coming out of her…She has seen many seasons and her time has come to rest on a nice velvety couch, be fed tasty meals while surrounded by loving and understanding owners. This is not what she is living now..Loosing a long time master and friend and life on her own in an unknown place and with people and dogs she never met before… Will you  be the one your home and heart to our Pumpkin ? She will need you very soon..
