SAFER
Pucci came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Pucci was shy and nervous, she allowed all handling with a slow approach. During SAFER Pucci came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly towards the assessor with a slow approach. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Pucci tries to bite at the assessor on the second paw squeeze. She displayed no interest in the toy item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Squeeze 2: 5. Dog tries to bite.
Toy: 1. No interest.
