04/28/17 11:12 Pryme is a one year old tan male American Pitbull terrier. He was surrendered by his owner due to owner experiencing personal problems and no longer being able to care for him. He was given to owner by a breeder and was with his family since he was a few months old. Pryme was taken to the low cost mobile trucks for vaccines and wellness. Pryme has lived with four adults and three kids’ ages one year to eight years old. Owner stated Pryme is excited around strangers and will jump and engage in exuberant play with people. Pryme was playful with the children and would engage in exuberant play as well. Owner stated he could occasionally get over excited during play and mount the members of the home. Pryme spent time with his sibling a female Pitbull and was described as playful and engaged in exuberant play; they would run and chase each other. Pryme has lived with two cats in his previous home as well; he was playful towards the cats in the home. Pryme has not bitten in his previous home. Pryme was walked about eight times a day and due to owners change in schedule was walked twice a day recently. Pryme has accidents indoors and is not housetrained. Owner stated Pryme was left in the crate for the majority of the day and was well behaved in the crate. He would only bark when he has to use the bathroom or is hungry. Pryme eats dry food Pro Plan Purina brand and is fed a cup and a half twice a day. Pryme will eat faster if his food is approached while eating, owner stated he did not mind if food was taken from his mouth. Pryme likes to be bathed and brushed. Pryme will bark and alert his owner once stranger approaches his home, once the visitor enters he will sniff and after a few minutes try to engage them in play. Pryme has been kept only indoors. He knows the commands sit and loves to play with balls and stuffed toys. Pryme pulls very hard on leash according to owner. Upon intake Pryme had a loose wiggly body. When counselor approached he wagged his tail and jumped up on counselors knee, licking counselors hand. He was tense when scanned and wiggled away from the scanner, he showed no signs of aggression. Pryme was collared and photographed.

A volunteer writes: Pryme is a little sprite with a zest for life and a lot of love for YOU! He has previously lived with adults and children and was very friendly and exuberant with everyone. He loves the two-legged set…and the four-legged set, too! He was playful with the resident cat and his canine sibling and has engaged in rough and rowdy play with other dogs in our care. He is always wagging his tail and is very puppylike. He can be jumpy and mouthy, but has never gotten out of hand with me and is SUPER fun to be with! He doesn’t pull much on leash, seems housebroken, and loves treats. When I play with him off leash he literally jumps and plants all four paws on my lap, hops off and does a couple celebratory zoomies, and then lands in my lap again! He is as cute as can be and just radiates positive energy and sweetness. He would be soo happy to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!

KNOWN HISTORY: Full profile 4/28/17 Intact Male, Owner surrender (Few months old in the previous home) Previously lived with: Four adults, 2 cats and three kids(ages 1-8 years old) Behavior toward strangers: Excited and engage in play. Behavior toward children: Playful Behavior toward dogs: Friendly and playful Behavior toward cats: playful Resource guarding: No, but will eat faster if his food is approached Bite history: No Housetrained: No Energy level/descriptors: Pryme displays a high activity level in the household. Other notes: Upon intake Pryme was friendly, loose and wiggly, he allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 4/28/17 Look:1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity:1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag:1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Summary: Pryme was friendly and social but can be very mouthy with moderate pressure. PLAYGROUP: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Pryme solicits and engages in rough and rowdy play with male and female dogs. According to Pryme’s previous guardian, Pryme spent time with his sibling a female Pitbull and was described as playful and engaged in exuberant play; they would run and chase each other. The Behavior Department recommends that Pryme be placed with resident dogs that match his high energy play style. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/28/17: During his medical examination, Pryme do not like his mouth touch. ENERGY LEVEL: His previous owner reports a high activity level, which matches what we have seen in the care center.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No young children (under 5)Due to this behavior, Pryme becomes mouthy with moderate pressure, we advise against a home with children at this time. Potential challenges: _X_House soiling- Pryme is noted to have occasional accidents in the house, and will likely need guidance with house training. We recommend ONLY force-free, reward-based, positive reinforcement training methods as more aversive methods. Accidents should never be punished as it can damage the human-dog relationship and is likely to make the problem worse. _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition- While he applies moderate pressure, Pryme was mouthy throughout the assessment and is quick to put his teeth on skin. This is likely an attention-seeking behavior, but it should be replaced with an alternative behavior as it can frighten people. We recommend never playing with bare hands – always with a toy – and ending play or attention whenever Pryme puts teeth on skin. He should be rewarded with attention and treats when he stops and/or when he is seeking attention in alternate ways.

The Behavior Department recommends that Pryme be placed with resident dogs that match his high energy play style. 4/29: Pryme displays soft body language when greeting a novel female dog. He is slightly sexually motivated, and attempts to mount the female dog. He responds well to handler interruptions and explores the pen. 4/30: Pryme was engaged in rough, rowdy play with a male and female dog. He matches the play style of his partner, body slams, running chase play and mouthing play and takes breaks even when the other dogs continue to play.
