04/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Promise….just her name evokes a future of love, happiness, snuggles, and…….promises kept. She’s a gorgeous girl, surrendered to our care as her family moved where she is not welcome. Let their loss be your gain as I fell in love with her and know you will too. We’re told that Promise gets along with children and adults, loves getting pet, lived well with another dog, doesn’t guard her food, enjoys a bath and grooming, is housetrained when walked at least twice a day (morning and night), loves to play fetch, is crate trained, and is described as a “loving, affectionate and playful dog”. I loved my time with Promise, her leash manners are lovely, her coat is as soft as the finest velvet, she showed off her ‘sit’ and ‘shake paw’, gets excited when she sees other dogs, and loved playing with a toy bringing it up on the bench to share with me. I had to leave our pen for a short while and Promise waited quietly and patiently for me, wagging her tail happily when I returned. She gives kisses, is so calm and easy, posed for photos like a pro and I’m completely smitten with this soft, gentle girl. So, paraphrasing a line from a well known advertisement, ‘Promise her anything but give her a home’……..it will be the best decision you’ll have made all day! 04/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Promise pulls a bit on leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up and mouthy (moderate). She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Promise did a lot of jumping up, body checking and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction. She shows minimal interest with toys. Promise rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Promise was surrender to us. According to his previous owner promise has a high activity level. She loves to play fetch and would do best in a family home or a single person home with a lot of energy & time. Promise is friendly around strangers and loves getting pet. Promise has been exposed around1 & 6 yr old children, Promise gets along with children & adults. Promise has resided with another dog & was very friendly towards him. She has not resided with cats or other small animals. Promise does not show signs of aggression when owner touches food bowl while she is eating. Owner is able to take bone, toy or any object from her mouth with no problem”. Promise show a bit of concern during the tag interaction she became a bit over arousal. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3.
