08/04/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/04/17 17:02 Basic Information Prinny is a three year old, tan colored, large female dog. She was surrendered with her brother, Wilson. Prinny is a well-mannered dog and a great companion to her owner. Prinny currently has no visible signs of injuries or illness. Socialization Prinny is friendly and shy for a few minutes around strangers. She did not live at home or spend time with children but is gentle when playing with adults. She lived and spent time with her brother and was relaxed and playful around him. When playing with other dogs, she is gentle. She has never bitten a human or another animal. Behavior Prinny barks too much and is nervous during fireworks. She isn’t bothered if you touch her food or bowl while eating or take her toy away or pushed off furniture or disturbs while sleeping. She is friendly when given a bath and isn’t bothered if brushed or nails trimmed. She is friendly if unfamiliar faces approach owner or her family or her home. For a new Family to Know Prinny is a friendly and playful dog with a high energy level. She is lovable and loves to watch TV and sing along. She follows you around at home and likes to play balls and tug. She was kept indoors only and slept on a large dog bed. She was fed both wet and dry dog food (pedigree). She has no favorite treat; is house trained and rarely/never has accidents. She goes potty on grass when outdoors and would destroy household items when left alone at home. She has never been crated and understands the commands ‘sit, come, down, stay.’ She goes running and jugging; pulls lightly on the leash and stays close to your side when off leash. Behavior during Intake Prinny had a very relaxed body with an open mouth and a wagging tail. She took treats and allowed to be collard, photographed and placed in a kennel.
08/14/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Princess Prinny is such a shining light that you practically need sunglasses just to walk her! A golden girl with a heart to match, she waits her turn for a stroll with a big Shepherd-y smile, a high tail and a cute little paw-to-paw dance of anticipatio, and the minute we step outside she’s up and into my arms for comforting cuddles and kisses galore. Prinny arrived at our door with her brother Wilson A1120867, and while they couldn’t look more different on the outside, underneath their respective cream and chocolate coats these siblings are peas in a pod, shy sweethearts who enjoy the great outdoors and just can’t get enough of each other. Going from chilling in their finder’s home to a solo kennel in a bustling Care Center isn’t easy and Prinny’s understandably feeling a bit anxious and uncertain of her place in the world right now, but luckily we have the cure for those blues readily available—snuggles with staff and volunteer friends, and daily visits from her beloved Wilson. On leash, she likes to follow her nose (usually right to a new friend!), but she’s still very responsive to my voice and seems to be house traine, too. Alert and curious but not really into toys or treats, we’re told she was quite energetic and playful at home, and I’ve no doubt that once she returns to that environment, Prinny will quite literally bounce back to her more relaxed self. Unconditional love doesn’t always come in a pretty package, but in this case, it most certainly does! For regal good looks, a gentle nature and the kind of sparkling inner beauty few are fortunate enough to possess, look no further than Princess Prinny. She’ll be looking for you at our Manhattan Care Center, please don’t keep her waiting!

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/4/17 During her initial medical exam, Prinny was tense but warmed up and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Prinny is described as a high energy dog. She is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Prinny is a bit fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Prinny the option to walk away from any social interaction. Prinny should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Prinny’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Prinny would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings. _X_Anxiety: Prinny appears anxious in the care center, pacing and whining. It is unknown if this behavior will occur in a home environment, but positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to work on any concerns that do appear. He should be given Kongs and puzzle toys to give him other things.
