01/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Princess D came to us as an owner surrender due to allergies in the home. According to the owner Princess D is gentle and playful toward children, adults and is friendly toward strangers. She was very energetic and interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room. She allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. She had tense body language during the initial squeeze attempt and on both of the flank items as well. During the tag interaction Princess D engaged in play with the assessor but attempted to mouth the assessor at the end of the item, but calmed quickly. She took the toy away with soft body language. The behavior department believes that Princess can go to a home with an experienced owner and no young children. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is neutral, body a bit stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, may lip lick. Tag: 1. Dog Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw, with stiff body language, and moves away from the assessor. Flank squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, begins to purse lips and becomes stiff Flank squeeze 2: 3. Dog closes mouth, begins to purse lips and becomes stiff Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. When off leash with other dogs, Princess D initially does not approach the gate but after a minute or so, she does approach, exchanged sniffs and offered a play bow. Once the pen was opened however, Princess quickly retreated to the corners of the pen avoiding the other dog due to his high energy and slightly obnoxious play solicitations.
