SAFE 10/24/17
Hello, my name is Prince Charming. My animal id is #9311. I am a male black dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 09-Oct-2017
Prince Charming 9311 is at risk for a respiratory infection (CIRDC). Behaviorally, he has been social and allowed all handling in the care center, though he has also been a bit anxious and growly in-kennel, at times, and pulls hard on leash. We recommend an experienced adopter prepared to work with those behaviors.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: You may have noticed this handsome gentleman at the Brooklyn ACC sporting a dashing taco costume for Halloween. And let me tell you, I’ve never seen a taco look so good! Prince Charming is a staff favorite and just generally a ball of happy, waggy-tailed, adorable wrinkles. He loves to the chase the ball (although he hilariously never picks it up, just runs over to it and stands next to it), seems house trained, and walks well on a leash. His big, wrinkly, cute face loves to gives kisses and the rest of him is pretty affectionate too. If you come to meet him, I guarantee you’ll fall in love with him just as the staff of the Brooklyn ACC have. Don’t delay, meet your Prince Charming today!

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Potential challenges: : Anxiety,Strength/leash pulling,Kennel presence
Potential challenges comments:: Anxiety:- Prince Charming has shown some signs of potential anxiety in the care center, vocalizing (whining, yarning) continually through the SAFER and through play sessions outside. This behavior was not reported at intake, and we have no known history on Prince, so we cannot be certain whether similar behavior will be seen in a future home environment. Strength/Leash pulling:- Prince Charming is a large, strong dog with the capability to pull over an average adopter. His adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that he be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which help diminish his strength through leverage, and that he be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash. Kennel presents:- While we cannot be certain if this behavior will appear in any other contexts, in highly emotionally charged or stressful environments Prince Charming may show behavior similar to what he is currently demonstrating in his kennel (growling and hard barking when his kennel is approached). We recommend potential adopters be comfortable managing this behavior and keeping themselves safe in any similar future situations.
