07/15/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/15/17 12:37 Basic Information: Prince is an 8 month old male Chihuahua mix who was given to the owner since birth from her daughter. The reason for surrender today was because the landlord doesn’t allow pets in the building. There are no known health problems or injuries to him. Socialization: Around strangers this dog is shy for a few minutes. He previously lived with a 3 year old child and is usually tolerant around them. He plays gentle with adults and children. Prince lived with another dog and was relaxed, playful and gentle around the other dog. It is unknown how he reacts to cats. He has never bitten a person or another animal. Behavior: He tends to bark a lot and get nervous around loud noises such as storms or fireworks. He is friendly when you touch his water bowl and take a treat or toy away from him. He isn’t bother when you push him off the furniture. He is friendly when you disturb him while sleeping. He is also friendly when being groomed including baths, being brushed and getting nails trimmed. He will bark if a stranger approaches the yard or an unfamiliar person approached owner. For a New Family: He is friendly and playful with a very high activity level. Prince only sleeps in the dark and around home he stays in his favorite spot. His bed was located in previous owner’s room where he would sleep and he prefers the covers on top of him. He loves to go outside and play, although he has mainly been kept indoors. He loves his squeaky toys and playing fetch outside. Prince eats Caesar’s wet dog food twice a day. He is partially house trained but has accidents a few times a week, he’ll go to the bathroom on cement, grass or wee-wee pads. When he’s left alone he will bark or whine and he’s never been crated. He know one command which is “come”. He’ll run away off the leash but he loves brisk walks and pulls lightly.

07/17/2017 WEB MEMO
A staff member writes: Ah, puppyhood… So many things can be so scary. Prince is a testiment to that. He has hilarious ways of communicating. When he wants to jump on someone’s lap, he makes it obvious with his hind legs hopping side to side. When he’s uncomfortable with someone petting his tempting little peanut head, he makes that obvious also with his very quick mouth nibbles. I respect how well he’s handling things despite his situation. He would do great with someone who will also respects his signals, while encouraging him to come out of his shell and molding into the hilarious, spunky, confident boy hiding beneath those bright chocolate eyes.

07/17/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Full Profile 7/15/17 Unaltered Male, Owner Surrender (In previous home for eight months) Previously lived with: Adults, a child (age three), and another dog Behavior toward strangers: Shy Behavior toward children: Tolerant Behavior toward dogs: Relaxed, playful, and gentle with the dog he lived with Behavior toward cats: Unknown Resource guarding: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: No Energy level/descriptors: Prince is described as friendly and playful with a very high activity level. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 7/17/17 Summary: In the assessment room, Prince growled when the assessor approached him, so the assessment was not conducted. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Summary INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Upon intake, Prince was barking, growling, and snapping. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/15/17 During his initial medical exam, Prince growled, snapped, and did not allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: His previous owners describe Prince as a high-energy dog. he is a young, enthusiastic dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Prince is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Prince has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Prince has allowed minimal handling at the care center, growling and snapping at handlers. Due to the consistent behavior displayed in shelter, the behavior department recommends an experienced adult home only until he can acclimate to his new home environment for the behavior to be further assessed. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is advised; force-free, reward based training only is recommended.
