05/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Prince previously lived with 2 adults. The owner stated prince is okay with strangers. The owner mentioned when prince food bowl is touched or hen walking next to him while he’s eating, he will growl and bare his teeth. It was reported by the owner Prince has a high activity level and he is also food and bone reactive. Prince has a previous bite history; the owner was laying in the bed next to Prince bone. The owner was getting up to go to the bathroom when Prince bit her face because he thought the owner was taking the bone away. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Prince is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. At intake it was reported Prince was playful and wiggly, he allowed all handling by the owner. During Prince medical exam he was growling with his tail tucked when approached by medical technician. In the kennel Prince can be seen growling, snarling, lunging and trying to bite when approaching his kennel. A SAFER assessment will not be conducted due to safety and stress level concerns. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
