A volunteer writes; Prince, the King of playgroups!!!! I needed a crown and my best bet at hand was a Duke Devils headpiece…Prince is a handsome dude and he surely looks cute outfitted with blue trimmings. His congeniality has won him the heart of many here at the Manhattan Care Center. And no, he is not physically a crowd pleaser…..but his personality is so pleasant and debonair that it makes you want to spend the whole day with him. Prince waits at his door. A gentle snoozing sound and bedroom eyes speak for themselves. Take me out, please….Nobody can resist Prince…He walks beautifully on the leash, does his business without marking, sits beautifully and majestically on command and takes treats very politely from my hand. He loves to be caressed , hugged and kissed on the tip of his nose. Prince ‘s hallmark is his performance in playgroup with other dogs. He is a greeter and does a tip top job. Indeed he is playful and bouncy with the lively pooches and respectful of the calm and shy ones. I guess, Prince can read well his peers mind and understand and accept that not everybody is the same…Prince was left with us as his family could not care financially for a pet anymore. He comes with overwhelming recommendations..He lived with children, was extremely sociable with strangers, frequented dog parks…A dream companion…Although not Apollo…Prince shines by his inner beauty…Yes, he is tubby, has a few calluses and is a dark knight but he is an outstanding dog, well mannered, going with the flow, lively, playful, calm, good with his peers, loving…In a nutshell, a pooch who will fit in many settings, a family pet…Prince is a keeper. Welcome him in your home as fast as you can…Prince is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming to belong and be yours.
01/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Prince pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Prince was excitable (mouthy light) but playful while playing tag. He took the toy away with a soft body language. Prince was surrender to us. His previous owner described him as being extremely sociable with strangers, often greeting them with a happy wagging tail and tons of kisses. He lived with 3 children ranging ages 5-12 and was said to play with them carefully. Prince would play with other dogs in the park. He was said to love running around with the other dogs off leash. Prince doesn’t show any signs of food guarding, nor does he mind his human counterparts grabbing his chew toys from him”. Prince during the tag interaction was quick to use his mouth in play and has poor body awareness, resulting in him mouthing handlers with light pressure. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, jumps on the assessor, mouthy (light) Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: Prince offers polite greeting, and engages in gentle play with both male and female dogs.
01/06/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Prince is social and playful, engaging in a softer play style with both males and females. He is respectful of dogs that are not interested, allowing more nervous dogs time to acclimate. Prince’s owner reports that he engages in running play with other dogs at the park. Based on this information the behavior department believes that Prince could go to a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Prince greets politely. He solicits and engages in play with other playful dogs. He is calm and respectful when greeting dogs that are less interested. 1/7 update: Prince offers polite greeting, and engages in gentle play with both male and female dogs.
