SAFER ASSESSMENT:

Summary: Pretzel has not acclimated well to the shelter environment, she remains challenging to handle in the care center. For these reasons, Pretzel is not appropriate for a handling assessment at this time.

PLAYGROUP:

Pending.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:

Upon intake, Pretzel growled.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:

During her initial medical examination, Pretzel was snapping throughout her exam.

ENERGY LEVEL:

Due to Pretzel’s fear, she displays a low energy level in the care center so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment.

RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only

_X_Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the warning and distance-increasing behaviors shown in the care center, as well as Pretzel’s, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide force free behavior modification to address the snapping and underlying anxiety.

_X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Pretzel has attempted to bite during her stay in our care centers when uncomfortable; guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is recommended to assess behavior after decompression in a new home environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Pretzel to new and unfamiliar situations
