05/01/2017 WEB MEMO
A staff member writes: When I first met Pretzel, I immediately fell in LOVE!. He caught my attention with that soft, sweet, innocent face expression. He has big, brown, beautiful eyes that just will make your heart melt. Since he has been at BACC, I’ve visted him non-stop. He loves to be rubbed and he loves to have all your attention! He loves to play and be hugged up on and he is so sweet that I look forward to seeing him first thing when I get here at work. He is a BESTFRIEND, with that beautiful face of his, he could make all your worries go away, and for that reason I look forward to seeing him find his forever home even more, because he deserves that second chance!! PRETZEL IS A MUST CHECK OUT!!!
04/19/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 4/17/17 Intact Male, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Pretzel was friendly and allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 4/19/17 Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Pretzel was very friendly and affectionate towards the assessor. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Pretzel is playful and sexually motivated with female dogs, but becomes stiff and low growls when greeting males. Pretzel was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Pretzel be placed with female dogs that match his gentle play style. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/17/17: During his medical examination, Pretzel was friendly and easy to handle. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Pretzel so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience(suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _x_ Recommend no dog parks: Due to Pretzel’s stiff body language when greeting male dogs, the Behavior Department recommends that Pretzel only be socialized in a more controlled setting.
