Re-Exam (7/13/16) calm dog allows all handling; heart and lungs wnl; severely matted eyes ery irritated from fur; thick ropey discharge suggestive of KCS but could just be chronic irritation from hair; eyes are hyperpigmented and scarred; heavy tartar; one mammary tumor (probably benign) palpated in caudal gland.; She is so matted that there may be more that cant currently be felt; should be re-examined after shave down.; will treat eyes with TAB and optimmune.; It is possible the optimmune could be withdrawn after eyes are less irritated.; mammary tumor should be excised; good prognosis with treatment

BEHAVIOR:

Praline came into the care center as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She has been social and easy to handle since intake. During her SAFER assessment Praline allowed all handling items, initially a bit tense but relaxing quickly. She did not engage with the toy. We feel that Praline’s behavior is appropriate for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience.

Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful, her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open.

Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.

Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back.

Toy: 1. No interest.

Additional note: Praline will need extra care to keep her coat mat- and tangle-free, and may need professional grooming appointments.

Group Behavior

7/16: When off leash with other dogs Praline will sniff dog when they walk away but otherwise keeps to herself. She will seek attention from handlers.

Our experienced volunteers will do their best to guide you through the process.

* We highly discourage everyone from trusting strangers that send them Facebook messages, offering help, for it has ended in truly tragic events.*
