05/24/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Quiet in her kennel but up front with a softly wagging tail, her invitation is unmistakable, so I leash her easily, and out we go. She’s so sweet, calm and gentle, a pleasure on leash, she potties as soon as we’re outside, and we head to the park. Prairie joined us when her person fell ill, and while I’m sure she’s missing what’s familiar, she’s doing a great job of handling this big change. In the park, she poses for some photos, loves watching the squirrels teasing her but never pulls towards them, wags her tail gently as I talk to her, and refuses my treats as perhaps used to better. Her coat is soft and clean, her weight shows she’s been well fed, and her gentle nature speaks of an easy soft companion. Prairie told me that a plush bed, good food, leisurely walks and a person to love is what makes her heart go pitter patter. She’s ready to give her heart away to a person who wants it, and who wouldn’t? I can’t imagine an easier, more appreciative companion than Prairie. Come meet her today.

05/22/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 5/20/17 Unaltered Female, Seized SAFER ASSESSMENT: 5/22/17 Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body is trembling, her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body trembling, mouth closed. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest, dog sniffs toy. Summary: Prairie appeared fearful in the assessment room, trembling during the assessment. She approached the assessor and allowed all handling. PLAYGROUP: Prairie has appeared uncomfortable during interactions with dogs in the care center. History around dogs is unknown due to the nature of her arrival in the care center. The behavior department recommends allowing Prairie an appropriate period of decompression outside of the care center, before immediate introduction to other dogs. Future introductions should be conducted to polite dogs, on a one on one basis. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/21/17 During her initial medical exam, Prairie was social and allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Prairie so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Prairie is a bit fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Prairie the option to walk away from any social interaction. Prairie should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Prairie’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Prairie would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings.

05/22/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR

She will offer strong corrections for lingering greeting.
