08/04/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/04/16 16:12 Portabella allowed me to pet her, collar her and take her pictures. She walked calmly on the leash and had a wagging tail while outside. She had a tucked tail while in the office.

08/09/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: This luscious girl, a delicacy as is her name, is a beauty, so I call her Bella for short. Waiting patiently and quietly in her kennel, I leashed her easily and out we go. She ‘went’ as soon as we were out the door, so is likely housetrained, and her leash manners are lovely. She checks up often as we walk, and I assure her she’s a good girl, as her tail wags in happy response. Bella ignores other dogs we pass, and in her first group play session was tolerant of all greeting. Bella has a gentleness about her, her demeanor speaks of a nice home prior to joining us, and her obvious sweetness compelled a park staff person to come over to meet her. She welcomed his attention with a gentle hello. Bella draped herself over my lap when I sat to take some notes, gave me some kisses, and her shy and so very sweet personality made me fall in love with her that much more. She’s so easy to be with, gentle, calm and with a peaceful aura about her that I wish I could have spent all day with her. You, lucky adopter, can spend a lifetime with her. Hopping back into her kennel when our time together was over, I promised her we’d help find her a good home. Please help me make my promise to this sweetest of dogs come true. Another volunteer writes: Can we talk Portabella for a minute? No, not the mushroom variety, but the 4-legged variety. Even better! I’m totally in love with this gentle girl who waits so quietly in her kennel for a walk. She seems to be housetrained, is great on leash, loves to snuggle and give kisses, never stops wagging her tail, she smiles when I talk to her and she’s easy going, calm, gentle and the type of best friend I want by my side. Non judgmental, she listens when I talk, seems to have a depth of understanding that is enviable, and will make you feel that no one in the world is as special as you are. Isn’t that who you want to take with you on this journey we call life?

08/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Portabella came to the care center as a stray so we have no history in a home. Upon intake, she allowed petting and walked calmly on leash. She walked nicely on leash during her relief walk. Upon entering the room she was friendly and social, jumping on and licking the people. She averted her eyes during Look, body loose and lip licking. She was wiggly and jumped on assessor between assessment items, displaying a high level of energy. She leaned into the assessor during Sensitivity and licked the assessor’s hand. During Tag, she was at first distracted but then joined the game running and again displaying a high level of energy. She jumped up on the assessor and then settled. For the first Squeeze attempt, Portabella pulled back her paw. On the second Squeeze attempt, she pulled back her paw and mouthed the assessor’s hand without applying pressure. The Behavior Team recommends Portabella be placed in an Average home. She would benefit from positive reinforcement obedience class to teach her basic manners and not to jump. She will need daily physical exercise, such as runs and walks, and mental stimulation, such as Kong toys and other puzzle toys, for her to channel her energy into. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, jumps up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently pulls back paw and places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog to Dog: When off leash with other dogs Portabella is nervous but allows greeting. She will sniff the helper dog when he turns to walk away but is more interested in seeking attention from handlers.

08/05/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/5: When off leash with other dogs Portabella is nervous but allows greeting. She will sniff the helper dog when he turns to walk away but is more interested in seeking attention from handlers. She arrived as a stray, so history around dogs is unknown. The behavior team feels Portabella would be most comfortable as the only resident dog until her behavior and socialization with them can be followed up on outside the care center.
