04/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: What a great name for this middle aged little dude! Porkchop sits up front in his kennel, curiously surveying the scene surrounding him as I promise I’ll be back to take him for a walk. He rewards me with a smile as if he completely understood me, and when I returned there he sat waiting. Easily leashed he hops out of the kennel, no easy feat on his short little legs and motors on out of the building. Going potty is his first priority once we’re outside, and then shows off great leash manners as we walk to the park. Pleasantly plump in his rich bronze color coat, he’s calm and easy as we pass other dogs with ease on our walk. He’s seriously the cutest thing ever! Off leash in the backyard Porkchop greets other dogs passing our pen with a happy tail wag and then jumps up on the bench to give me a kiss – pretty impressive for a short, stubby older boy!! He loves to give kisses, his eyes sparkle, he has the best smile and I love how his muzzle is graying, reflecting the dignity that comes with age. He’s awesome, he’s amazing, he’s fun, he’s affectionate and he’s without a home. That’s an easy fix as I know you’ll fall in love the moment you meet him, so come on over today!
04/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Porkchop came into our center after being found as a stray. Finder kept him overnight where he was calm, allowed petting, and walked well on leash. He was friendly and allowed all handling during intake. Porkchop held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, relaxed. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, ears and tail neutral. Porkchop initially followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, but became playful towards the end, jumping up lightly and bouncing. He moved his body away during paw Squeeze, so remainder of item was conducted on Flank. Porkchop did not respond on both Flank Squeezes. Porkchop kept a firm grip on Toy, loose, wiggly body. When off leash with other dogs Porkchop engages in bouncy play, often running through the pen to solicit play. The Behavior Team feels Porkchop would do well in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Flank squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Porkchop engages in bouncy play, often running through the pen to solicit play.
04/01/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Porkchop engages in bouts of bouncy play with other dogs. On one instance, when greeting a group of dogs through a fence, he began to growl and bark – but since then has been back into playgroup and engaged with another playful dog. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Porkchop before placement with another dog. He arrived as a stray so in home behavior with dogs is unknown. When off leash with other dogs Porkchop engages in bouncy play, often running through the pen to solicit play. 4/7 update: Porck Chop engages briefly in play with a female dog.
