Medical Behavior Evaluation ORANGE
Medical Summary Estimated age: 2 years Microchip noted on Intake? neg. Owner surrender b/c owner is having knee surgery and is unable to care for him. BAR Observed Behavior – timid; initially allowed handling but did now allow hind end to be examined and started trying to snap. BCS 4/9 EENT: OU-episcleral injection, periocular dermatitis AU-severe yeasty discharge, erythema, inflammation; lichenification of ear pinna Oral Exam: mm pk, moist; CRT <2 sec; mild tartar and staining PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: no murmurs or arrhythmias; eupnic, normal lung sounds ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: male intact; unable to palpate testicles due to behavior MSI: ambulatory x 4 with no lameness noted; unable to perform full orthopedic exam due to temperament moderate to severe erythema around muzzle and periocularly crusting and ulceration along skin fold on top of head interdigital dermatitis CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: not performed Assessment 1. Dermatitis-suspect underlying allergy (r/o environmental vs food) 2. otitis externa-appears chronic; likely due to underlying allergy 3. episcleral injection-r/o allergic conjunctivitis vs excitement/anxiety vs other Plan gave 0.8 ml dex SP IM osurnia AU x 2 doses cephalexin 1000 mg PO BID x 14 days rec’d diet trial with hypoallergenic diet to rule out underlying food allergies rec’d positive reinforcement training Prognosis: good to excellent; will likely require chronic management for allergies but this is very commong in this breed SURGERY: Okay for surgery
