08/16/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/16/17 19:25 Basic Information: Poochy is a 10 year old Male small breed dog. He was surrendered to us because previous owner could no longer take care of him. He was only with previous owner for 3 months. Previous owner states that He hasn’t been eating for the last couple of days but has not taken Poochy to the vet for this. Socialization: Poochy is friendly around strangers and children. He plays gently with both adults and children and lived with another yorkie and he was respectful of him. Poochy has never been around cats so owner is unsure how he will react. Behavior: Poochy can have pee accidents inside the house. He gets scared of storms and fireworks and will hide. He isn’t bothered when his toys, food, or treats are being touched while he is eating or playing. He is ok with being picked up and held and isn’t bothered when getting a bath he is ok. Owner has never trimmed Poochy’s nails so he is unsure how he will react. He does bark when someone unfamiliar comes towards the house. For a New Family to know: Poochy is a friendly, affectionate, shy dog with a medium activity level. Poochy will stay in his favorite spot when you are home and would mostly stay indoors with 2 walks per day in the morning and night. Poochy liked to sleep next to bed of the owner. He was mostly house trained with an occasional pee accident a couple of times per week. He did like to go to the bathroom on the grass and may go potty indoors when left home alone. He was crate trained but it was left open for Poochy to go in and out freely. He knows how to sit, stay, and come. Upon intake, Poochy had a wiggly body and jumped up on counselor for affection. Allowed counselor to put him on her lap and be pet.
08/20/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Poochy loves his little doggy bed. You will always find him laying in there. As soon as someone rings the bell at his door, he inquires right away, sometimes with a little growl. When he gets to know you, though, just say “open sesame” and Poochy will let himself be picked up and carried nicely against your chest. You must have figured out by now that Poochy is a Chihuahua, an elderly one whose life might not have been a bed of roses and who needs a home sweet home and the love of a master to make sure his golden years are bright and happy. Poochy is a good walker, likely house trained (or partially). He marks his territory a little but trots at a good pace around the block and does stairs without effort. He is fine being petted, outfitted with a bow and lifted on my lap for some bonding. Our little Poochy needs a break, a family who will love, care for him and respect him as he deserves. Come and meet him soon at the Manhattan Care Center.

RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope _X_Place with a New Hope partner – Due to the warning and distance-increasing behaviors shown in the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner. Force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Poochy to new and unfamiliar situations. Potential challenges: _X_House soiling- Poochy is reported to have occasional accidents in the house, and will need guidance with house training. We recommend continuing with crate training when alone, and placing a wee wee pad down to eliminate indoors. Accidents should never be punished as it can damage the human-dog relationship and is likely to make the problem worse. _X_Handling/touch sensitivity – Poochy has shown discomfort with handling. It’s important to go slow with Poochy, he should not be forced to submit to handling or petting if uncomfortable
