03/09/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/09/16 15:42 BASIC INFORMATION Poochie is a spayed 10 month old American Pitbull Terrier mix. She was given to her prior owner by a neighbor when she was just 3 months old who could no longer care for her. Unfortunately, her prior owner has to move and she is unable to find a new home that accomodates animals. Poochie does not have any current medical issues. SOCIALIZATION Poochie has lived the last 7 months with two adults and 1 child aged 12 years old. Poochie is relaxed, very tolerant, and exuberant during play with any child. Poochie barks and pulls on the leash when she sees other dogs but because she wants to meet them. When she does meet dogs she sniffs them and wants to play. It is unknown how she would behave around cats because she has never been around them. Her owner says that she has a medium activity level. Poochie is describes as a ball of fun, highly excitable, a tad shy at first, but grows to be very affectionate, and friendly. BEHAVIOR Poochie is not bothered if someone touches or removes her food bowl, treats, or bones. She is friendly and thinks a person is playing if they remove her toy. She enjoys being held or hugged. She is friendly when people approach her family. She is afraid and struggles when given a bath. She seems to enjoy being pet. She barks at people that approach her home but is friendly when they come inside. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Poochie is very house trained and does not have accidents in the home. She is used to leashed walks at least 3x a day. She excercises off leash at least onece a week at a dog park. When she is off leash, she will wander some but come when called. She enjoys playing with balls and tug with her rope toys. When people are home she tends to follow them around the house. She is well behaved when home alone. She howls when she hears fire trucks but is not bothered by other loud noises. She is used to eating a mixture of both wet and dry dog food. She sleeps wherever she’s feeling most comfortable at that given time. INTAKE BEHAVIOR Upon intake Poochie was relaxed and affectionate. She moved daintly and her tail wagged swiftly. Poochie allowed to be rubbed, and collared by an admissions counselor. Poochie scanned positive for a microhip.

03/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Poochie previously lived with two adults and 1 child aged 12 years old. The owner stated Poochie is relaxed, very tolerant, and exuberant during play with any child. The owner mentioned Poochie is house trained, has a medium activity level and well behaved when home alone. The owner describes Poochie as ball of fun, highly excitable, a tad shy at first, but grows to be very affectionate, and friendly. At intake it was reported Poochie was relaxed and affectionate, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Poochie came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, affectionate and playful towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Poochie joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Poochie was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Poochie appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels Poochie’s behavior is suitable for an adopter with an average amount of experience. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Poochie greets, with a low wiggly body. She solicits play with paw slaps to the face and does not read the helper dog’s signals that he is not interested in play.
03/10/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Poochie engages in loose, bouncy play and running/chase play but overuses paw slaps to get the other dog’s attention. She is slow to take corrections from other dogs and may miss subtle and not so subtle cues to back away. Due to his behavior in playgroup, the Behavior Department feels that Samson is suitable to live in a home with either male or female dogs of any play style or temperament. Additionaly, Poochie presents herself softer when with males but becomes stiffer and a touch assertive and uncomfortable when interacting with females. Therefore we recommend that a proper introduction is conducted and the early play sessions are closely monitored with other female dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Poochie greets, with a low wiggly body. She solicits play with paw slaps to the face and does not read the helper dog’s signals that he is not interested in play. 3/15 update: Poochie approaches and greets with a loose, wiggly body. She engages in bouncy running/chase play and paw slap play. 3/16-3/24 update: Poochie engages in rowdy chase play with paw slaps and body slams. She can be pushy with her solicitations. She presents herself softer when with males but becomes stiffer and a touch assertive and uncomfortable when interacting with females.
