03/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
UPDATE 3/26/15 Polo is showing concerning behavior when returning to his kennel. While walking through the shelter to return to his kennel he will begin to tug and bite up the rope. When returning to his kennel, he will turn and lunge at the handler. He will also tug at the rope once back in his kennel and does not relinquish it. When outside walking or in the yard, Polo continues to be sociable with people. Given Polo’s low threshold for arousal, the behavior department feels he is best suited for an experienced adopter.
SAFER 3/6/15 Polo was found as a stray and at intake he was reported to be friendly and allowed all handling, but he did become a bit tense during his medical exam. During SAFER Polo in constant movement, and was more interested in his surroundings, but with coaxing he was responsive to the assessor. He allowed the assessor to conduct each handling item without issue, and was distracted during the tag interaction. Polo was easily pushed out of the food bowl during the food test, and only showed minimal interest in the toy and rawhide items. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is down, body a bit tense, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Dog may lick hand. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: off leash polo initiated play with a female dog, but appears a bit sexually motivated and when approaching to initiate play would whine and vocalize.
03/08/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Polo is friendly when greeting another dog and is interested in people. When a dog offers a play bow, he is unsure of how to respond and seems like an unsure play when offered multiple play signals. 3/4 Update Polo still appears unsure of how to ready play signals and when he attempts to intiate play with a female he appears a bit sexually motivated and will whine and vocalize during interaction. 3/8 Update Polo attempts to play with another female and is interested in interacting but continues to be unsure and offers whining vocalizations. 3/9 Update Polo engages in running play with another female. He enjoys running with theother dog to either end of the yard and will occassionally have breaks for mild soft play. 3/11 Update Polo will try and engage in play with solicitous gentle muzzle punches. He is still unsure of how to engage appropriately in play and will loudly bark while offering play bows. 3/25 Update Polo engages in bouncy play with a female and is a good player. 3/26 Update Polo is a polite greeter and engages in a bit of play with a female.

Medical rating 1 – NORMAL , behavior rating AVERAGE
S/O: Vet check – Doxy treatment to end tomorrow. Patient is BAR in kennel. Slightly soft stool with a green color to it. Patient eating well, drinking, urinating normally. No signs of c/s/v/d. Very energetic and playful. P: 1. Ok to move out of iso and finish course of Doxy 2. 03/26/15: A shelter staff member writes: Polo was found tied up outside of a building, and was brought into BACC as a stray. He looks dashing in a bow tie, and has some pretty adorable ears! Polo is an energetic guy who was a bit unsure of how to play with other dogs when he first got here, but after a few playgroup sessions, really seems to have gotten the hang of it! Polo is a social guy outside of the shelter, but has recently begun to display some concerning behavior when being placed back in his kennel. He begins to bite and tug on the leash in the hallway, and once inside his kennel, will lunge and bite at the leash again. He will likely do best with an experienced family who can appropriately handle Polo’s low threshold for arousal, and give him a place to decompress after his time in the shelter. Please help Polo find a home of his own, and pull him online TONIGHT!
