04/23/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/23/16 20:04 This dog was very nervous at intake. She crawled out of the police kennel and after about 5 minutes of being with me picked her head up and glanced at me. I was unable to get the dog to sit on the back drop and she did not follow when I walked her on the leash.
04/26/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Polka Dot is quiet in her kennel, up front as I approach, paws on the bars suggesting the beginning of a nice friendship. I leash her and out we go to the park. She wears a gorgeous rich mahogany color coat, and her face is half mahogany and half polka dots — thus her name! She’s very shy, not quite comfortable but curious, alert and interested in exploring new things. She takes treats gently from my hand, comes when I make kissy sounds at her, isn’t quite sure what to make of the toy I give her, and chases a bird, tail wagging, that flies into our pen. After some time Dot (for short) lies down and we sit and chat. Dot cries a bit for the life she had before, and I so want to make it all better for her. She’ll need a slow approach and to learn that we’re all her friends. Let’s make it happen for this sweet girl who needs us now. 04/27/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Polka Dot walks with a low fearful body language on leash. She was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. Polka Dot was tense during handling, with fearful body language. She becomes frightened during the tag interaction, tail tucked, and trying to exit room. Polka Dot was not interested in toys. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter without children who can follow up on this behavior. Polka Dot was whining during the assessment. She was fearful, nervous pacing, ears and tail down, constant looking around. Polka Dot has been showing fearful behavior and avoids interaction in the care center. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Polka Dot is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 3. Dog repeatedly turns quickly away when touched, or repeatedly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit. Dog may be crouching, tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff. Squeeze 1: 3.
