Care Center Location: Manhattan, ZIP Code From: 10456, Intake Type: Owner surrender
Medical Behavior: Orange, Age: 3 years, Sex: Female, Weight: 49 lbs
DVM Intake Exam; Estimated age: 3 years per previous owners’ assumption. Exam is consistent with adult 2-5 years old. Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned negative on LVT intake – unable to place MC due to behavior. History : Surrendered. No health problems reported. Pt lived in a house with a neutered male dog but they were not allowed to be free in the house at the same time (one was always crated). Subjective: Alert, crouched low at the back of the kennel; Observed Behavior – Once the transfer door was shut, pt trembled and crouched low to the ground, but came forward towards the door. She was leashed, and then she came towards the front willingly, with tail wagging between her legs. She walked well on the leash to the exam room and was easily muzzled. I touched her on the head and she immediately lifted her lips to show her front teeth and growled, and she urinated. She turned and snapped as I examined her. She had a very tense body and was crouched throughout the exam. MC and HWT were not attempted due to pt stress. Objective ; BAR-H, MMs pink, BCS 5/9; EENT: Eyes clear, ears appear clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted; Oral Exam: Clean teeth; PLN: No enlargements noted; H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic; ABD: Very tense, could not palpate. U/G: Female, MGs engorged and pt is lactating.; MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat; CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities; Rectal: Normal externally; Assessment: 1. Behavior 2. Engorged MGs, no hx whelping or exposure to intact male dogs. R/O late pregnancy vs. recently gave birth and is nursing, vs. endocrine disease. Prognosis: Good; Plan: 1. Recommend spay in near future; 2. Recommend behavior consult; SURGERY: Okay for surgery
