A volunteer writes: There’s soft, there’s sweet, there’s soulful, and then there’s the wonder that is Plucy. With her silver coat, her amber eyes, and her two ears set like awnings ready to shield her from the storm, Plucy is beautiful to look at, yes. But it’s what lies beneath that truly makes her shine. We’ll begin with her manners, which Plucy has in spades. From her calm, easy walk to her delicate way with treats, to the manner in which she sits politely in front of you waiting to hear what’s next, Plucy is charmed and charming, and a lady above all else. But a lady still knows how to have fun! And the minute pretty Plucy spies a red squeaky ball, she bursts into joyful hops. You throw it again and again and again and watch her return it each time, dropping it cheerily in your lap. Plucy was brought to us as a stray, so much of her past remains unknown. From the way she leans into hugs and caresses, we can wager she’s known love before. And that she appears to be housebroken along with those aforementioned manners, it’s more than likely she’s known a home. And of course, from her full, low-hanging belly, we know she’s been a mama–and recently. And while she’s largely a happy girl, bright and spirited without much sign of sadness, there is something in the way she snuggles a small, pink stuffy toy — pulling it close to her, quietly tucking it beneath her chin — that makes you wonder what she’s missing. There’s soft, there’s sweet, there’s soulful, and then there’s the wonder that is Plucy. And while we may never know every road that led her to us, we hope one day to see her off to the one that leads her home. Plucy is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan ACC.

Dog leans forward to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, ears back, mouth closed Tag: 2. Dog follows at the end of the leash, a bit distracted, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed Toy 1. Dog keeps a firm grip, body neutral. Summary: Plucy displayed no behavior concerns during her handling assessment. INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Date of intake 9/10/2017 During intake, Plucy was calm and social. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Date of initial 9/11/2017 During her initial medical exam, Plucy allowed all handling. PLAYGROUP: 9/12: When introduced off leash to the male greeter dog, Plucy is polite when greeting. She offers hard, escalating correction when the greeter dog lingers while sniffing. Due to this level of escalation, she is not a candidate for another off leash interaction to avoid increasing levels of stress and discomfort. The behavior department feels Plucy may be most comfortable as the only resident dog until follow up can be conducted outside of the care center. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Plucy so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. In the care center Plucy displays as having a high level of energy and will benefit from daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend daily walks, runs, exercise, and play.
