07/31/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/31/16 14:28 Pippin was found on the street by police and brought in to the ACC. Police stated that the dog was friendly when they found him. He drank water that they gave to him and got in a crate willingly with no issues. He rode in the crate in the car on the way to the ACC fairly quietly. At the ACC, Pippin wagged his tail and sniffed the counselors. He allowed counselors to touch him, collar him, and put a leash on him. He followed counselors when they walked with him outside to take pictures. Pippin was very interested in sniffing the ground and various objects in the counselor’s office. He began to stick his nose in the trash can, but when counselors told him to stop and took away the garbage can he allowed them to do so and continued wagging his tail.
08/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Pippin is the cutest! We were cuddling on a couple of steps, and after laying in my lap for a while, he lay on the step down, started rolling over for a belly rub, I warned him he would topple and he did! Looking so surprised, and not just a little bit embarrassed, he stood, shook himself off and looked at me as if to say, “I really meant to do that!” Ha — funny boy! Gorgeously brindle with the best ears, and the cutest pouty underlip, Pippin is a bit thin at the moment, and badly needs a mani/pedi to trim his too-long nails. They obviously hurt him when he walks, so we took only a very short walk before stopping to cuddle. He wouldn’t allow our vet techs to trim his nails at intake as he’s waiting for his forever home to give him a spa day! Affectionate, gentle, and sweet, he plays briefly with a toy when he’s off leash, comes in for more cuddling, and never stops wagging his tail. Perhaps named for the Broadway show’s main character Pippin, he’s an awesome dog ready to play the leading role in your home. Come meet him today. You know you want to.
08/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Pippin came to us as a stray so we have no information on him in a home. On his relief walk, he pulled a little. During his assessment, he became highly aroused, mouthing and not settling. During look, he averted his eyes, keeping his body loose. On sensitivity, he became mouthy with the assessor, not holding still. For tag, he actively played, mouthing the assessor and the leash. During the squeeze portion, he pulled away his paw and again mouthed the assessor, applying a small amount of pressure. For the toy, he kept a firm grip on it, but was loose and wiggly. The behavior team recommends an experienced home with no children who will be able to provide force free training as well as a lot of mental and physical stimulation. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward. Engages in play and attempts to mouth handler and leash. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand while applying a small amount of pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand while applying a small amount of pressure. Dog is highly aroused, pulling paw away and repeatedly mouthing. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
08/03/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/3: When off leash with other dogs, Pippin engages in play with some intent to mount during. He becomes aroused and vocal when the style of play becomes more intensified. The behavior team feels that Pippin could be considered into a home with dogs pending a pre-adoption interaction, and slow, positive introductions depending on the comfort level of Pippin and any reisdent dogs. Due to arriving ad a stray, in home behavior with dogs is not known, and it is unknown how his behavior around dogs may translate outside of the care center.
