**RETURNED 09/22/2017, DOH HOLD RELEASED – NEW HOPE RESCUE ONLY**
Hello, my name is Marble. My animal id is #7927. I am a desexed female brown brindle dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks i am about 5 years 1 months old.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
Behavior Determination: New Hope A volunteer writes: A 58 lb. lap dog? Why not? And with this beauty in your lap and in your heart, she’ll feel as light as a feather, and so will you! Quiet in her kennel and coming forward to be leashed, Miss Marble shows off her housetraining skills the moment we’re out the door. During intake, Marble sat in the counselor’s lap, and she did the same with me. A big, gorgeous, fabulous lap dog–there’s nothing better! Off leash, Marble came when I called to her, snuggled on the bench with me, and rolled over for a semi belly rub. She loved watching a dog in an adjoining pen and greeted her with a wagging tail through the gate. Marble is full-figured in her gorgeous caramel color coat, has a fabulous smile, a graceful prance and a wagging tail. Her eyes are soft and intelligent, and confused, understandably. It’s clear she’s been well taken care of, and is ready to find a new person or family to love. Will you be the lucky one? Another volunteer writes: I’m a pushover for the shy, quiet dogs…the dogs that read like a love letter to their person. Marble is that dog. She’s always quiet in her kennel, shy, confused and gorgeous. Ask her on a date and she’s always willing and happy for the chance to go potty. She’s easy on the leash, gives kisses when asked for, loves to snuggle by invitation, and is just a doll. As we walked back from the park, she stopped in front of an SUV, as if she knew what it was all about, and wanted to hop in. I wish I could have opened the door and driven her away. If sweet, quiet, gentle and respectful is what makes your heart go pitter patter, then Marble is your girl. Another volunteer writes: As my colleague says, ‘Who doesn’t love time snuggling with a gorgeous dog?’. And indeed, if you’re a dog person, Miss Marble is the snuggle girl you never knew you wanted….until now. She’s gorgeous, easy, gentle, a total respectful lover girl. A soft approach, a quiet voice and a lap…that’s Marble’s happy place. She’s going to make it so easy for you to fall in love with her, and while they say that beauty is only skin deep, this beauty has it through and through. Marble is waiting to meet you and find her forever lap. Ask to meet her today, and we know you’ll fall in love. <iframe src=”http://albumizr.com/a/-iKf” scrolling=”no” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen width=”700″ height=”400″></iframe>

New Hope: Due to her bite history, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression Potential challenges comments: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Marble snapped at children in her previous home and bit a child who walked up to her quickly. It is important to always go slow and give Marble the option to walk away from any social interaction. Marble should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Marble’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Marble would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings. A volunteer writes: A 58lb. lap dog? Why not? And with this beauty in your lap and in your heart she’ll feel as light as a feather and so will you! Quiet in her kennel and coming forward to be leashed, Miss Pia shows off her housetraining skills the moment we’re out the door. Brought to our care by the person who found her and kept her for a few days, we’re told that Pia was good with the 3 year old son, allowing all petting as they roamed the house together and didn’t guard her toys from him. During intake Pia sat in the counselor’s lap, and she did the same with me. A big, gorgeous, fabulous lap dog – there’s nothing better! PROFILE :
During intake Pia was a little anxious after her Finder’s left. She was whining a little. She was friendly when called, and accepted affection. She was very distracted by sounds. She sat and stared at the door for a long time after her finders left. She allowed the counselor to collar her and handle her. She had a low wagging tail during intake. The counselor sat down next to her and she backed her body up into the counselor’s lap and then laid down on the counselor and allowed the counselor to pet her everywhere. When someone would call her over in the intake room, she would run over with a low wagging tail and soft eyes.
Her finder’s had a 3 year old son, and Pia was free roaming in the house with him. She allowed him to pet her and played with her toys around him and allowed the young boy to touch her toys. She did not growl when she was eating in her finders home; when she was eating, she was not bothered when people were walking around her. No one tried to take her food away though. Her finders stated she was a friendly, affectionate, and very playful dog with a lot of energy and she tolerated their son well.
BEHAVIOR :
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog leans into Assessor and accepts the touch, lip lick, ears back.
Tag: 2. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft, a bit distracted.
Squeeze 1/ 2: 2. Dog shoulder rubs before positioning, gently pulls back paw.
Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs, then walks away.
Summary: Pia was a bit uncomfortable with some up close handling, licking and shoulder rubbing, but tolerated handling once positioned.
INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
During intake, Pia was initially timid and anxious, whining as the Finder left, but warmed up and allowed handling and petting all over.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
During her initial medical exam, Pia was tense but allowed handling.
ENERGY LEVEL:
Her Finder reports Pia has a high level of energy which matches what we have seen in the care center. She will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend daily walks, runs, exercise, and play as well as food puzzles and long lasting chews.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
Potential challenges:
_X_Fearful – Pia may be timid when first meeting new people or new environments. She manages her stress well and has not escalated but may need time to warm up. Pia may do best with a slow approach, and should not be forced to submit to petting or handling whenever she is uncomfortable.
