04/07/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: The star of her own movie, Philomena is a gorgeous girl in her white coat and gray patch over one eye. All wiggly as I approached her kennel, she let me put a raincoat on her and out we go. Using the “facilities” as soon as we are out the door indicates she may be housetrained, and her leash manners are pretty good. Off leash in the yard, she tries to steal my treats, but as she’s way too thin, I forgive her. Phil is being fed an extra meal each day to help her gain some weight, and as she’s stunning now, with some more meat on her bones, she will be beyond stunning. Her tail wags, she sits before being asked when she sees a treat coming her way, and takes them gently for a girl who’s hungry. Up on the bench for a kiss, playing briefly with a toy, sitting for treats — Phil is a total fun delight. Always smiling, she’s a happy playful little girl who is ready to meet her costar and begin a new movie entitled, “And then they lived happily ever after”. Come meet Philomena today!
04/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Philomena pulls a bit on the leash. When she meet the assessors she offers defensive barks but then she warm up quickly. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. Philomena was calm and relaxed during handling. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Philomena took the toy away but had soft body language. Philomena has been showing some Obsessive/Compulsive barking in the care center. To get your attention, aggravation over not being able to attain something, social barking in response to other dogs. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1: No interest. Playgroup Notes: Philomena offers defensive barks at the handlers through the pen but once introduced she approaches them to sniff with a neutral body. She allows greeting from the helper dog but mostly explores the pen.
04/02/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Philomena does not interact when off leash with other dogs. She allows them to sniff her but does not reciprocate. She barks defensively through the gate at handlers, but once inside she approaches with a soft body to seek attention. She arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing her into a home with other dogs. Philomena offers defensive barks at the handlers through the pen but once introduced she approaches them to sniff with a neutral body. She allows greeting from the helper dog but mostly explores the pen. 4/5 update: Philomena roams the pen, barking at handlers through the barrier. 4/7 update: Philomena ignores the other dog and spends her time sniffing the pen and handlers.
