08/18/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/18/17 17:16 Basic Information Petey is a white and black, large male dog. His owner surrendered him due to personal reasons. Owner stated that she got Petey as a gift when he was just a two month and has been with him since then. She further stated that Major is a well-mannered dog and have been a great companion to her and she considers him her son. Petey’s last vet care was in March 2017, and he currently has no visible signs of injuries or illness. Socialization Petey is very friendly and outgoing around strangers. He lived at home and spent time with a two year old child and was relaxed, playful and respectful around her. Pity is gentle and somewhat exuberant when playing with adults. He regularly spent time with other dogs in a dog park and was relaxed, playful and respectful around them. And, he has never bitten a human or another animal. Behavior Petey has a very good behavior and isn’t bothered by loud noises. He is friendly if you touch his food or bowl while eating (he looks at you but continues to eat). He is friendly if you take his toy away and is not bothered pushed off furniture or disturbs while sleeping. He loves to take a bath and isn’t bothered if brushed or nails trimmed. He is friendly if unfamiliar faces approach owner or her family or her home. For a new Family to Know Petey is a very friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and independent dog with a medium energy level. He has been a great companion and emotional support to owner and listens to you. He follows you around at home and would be in the same room all the time. He likes to play balls, fetch and chase. He was kept mostly indoors and slept on owner’s bed. He was fed dry dog food (Dog chow), and his favorite treat is ham. He is house trained and never had accidents. He goes potty on grass, gravel/dirt when outdoors and is well behaved when left alone at home. He has never been crated and understands the commands sit, come, down, stay and no. He goes on slow and off leash walks in the park, pulls lightly on the leash and stays close to your side when off leash. Behavior during Intake Petey had a very relaxed body with an open mouth and a wagging tail. He allowed petting, jumped on counselor’s body and took treats. He allowed all handling and went in the kennel on cue.
08/24/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Petey is a “little rascal” with a gentle heart who came to us as his family was going though hard times. He has been well cared for, was clearly loved and comes with comments we like to read when we want to adopt a new pet. Petey is of medium activity level (quite important), housetrained, friendly to strangers, loving with his pwner and the child of the house, good with other dogs (he frequented dogs parks), playful and non destructive nor anxious when left alone. I absolutely love what his former owner said about him, “He is like my son, he has been a great companion and emotional support, he listens”. Petey has been initially shy here at the care center. He feared the camera. His wary eyes and body posture said…no paparazzi. I was happy (as I really love him) that he opened up during our first session together. A little run in the yard and a ball game teased his mind and he became a happier youngster again, coming on my lap, smudging my camera lens with his nose and kissing me profusely. He is such a tender lap dog! He pulls slightly on the leash and does his business in the street. He is cool with other dogs met in the yard and tries his best in playgroups with his peers. Tears came to my eyes when I read what Petey’s owner said about him and confirmed my feelings about him, who basically does not know him. Just instinct telling me that he is a good and loving dog. Come and see Petey for yourself and fall in love just as I did. Petey is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.

ENERGY LEVEL: Petey’s previous owner described him as having a medium level of activity. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below)
Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Petey is a bit fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Petey the option to walk away from any social interaction. Petey should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Petey’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Petey would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
