05/26/16 16:59 Petey is an 8 year old neutered Jack Russel Terrier. He was purchased by owners from a Pet Store and has been in their care for 7 years. He is being surrendered into the care center due to owners having a new baby come into the home. There are no known health injuries or problems. With stranger Petey is aggressive; in his last home he was blocked off from visitors because in the even the barrier wasn’t there he would lunge. When strangers came into the home he would growl, bark and attempt to lunge. When playing adults he can play rough. Petey has spent time with a young girl age 3 and he was aggressive towards him such as barking and growling; no interaction was allowed. He lived with another dog 6 month male Havense, he was playful and rough when they played. He also lived with a cat and would occasionally stalk so owners kept them away from each other. There is no known history of him biting another animal or person. If left unattended he will destroy shoes within the home and for people that he is unfamiliar with he is aggressive towards them. During storm or firework he isn’t bothered. When you touch his food bowl while eating, take treats or object away he will warn you with a growl bark and then snap. When unfamiliar people approach the home he will bark; when unfamiliar people approach you he will bark and growl. Petey is described as being playful with a low activity level that would do best in a home with space. His favorite activity is playing with the dog that he lived with. He slept in his bed and at dry food Wellness at least 2 times a day; once in the morning and then at night. His favorite treats are Beggin Strips. He is house trained and has never had accidents within the home. When left alone in the home he is well behaved. Petey has never been taken outside for walks for exercise or for walks. During intake Petey displayed aggressive behavior towards counselor such as growling and barking; when muzzled by owner and taken out of carrier that he was brought in he had a lowered body with his but in the hair and was growling; client scanned (negative) and collared Petey; temporary photo was taken in medical.

05/28/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Petey previously lived with adults and a 3 year old. The owner stated Petey is reactive around strangers and children, he would growl, bark and attempt to lunge at them. The owner mentioned he also lived with another dog which he was playful with, and also lived with a cat that he would stalk. It was reported by the owner Petey will growl and snap when someone touches his food bowl while eating or his treats. The owner also reported Petey is house trained, has a low activity level and when home alone he would destroy shoes within the home. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that (name of dog) is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. At intake it was reported Petey was reactive towards the counselor, he would bark and growl with tense body posture, he allowed some handling. He was also intolerant of handling during the medical exam and attempted to bite the technician. In the kennel Petey can be seen growling, snarling, lunging and trying to bite when approaching his kennel. A SAFER assessment will not be conducted due to safety and stress level concerns. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
