10/13/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: They say no one’s perfect but with his goofy smile, quick wits and cheerful nature, Perfect the dog is definitely well on his way to winning this volunteer’s heart! I adore his unique ‘look’ and his sociable nature makes him a fun companion for any adventure. He’s the ideal size for his energy levels, enthusiastic but easy enough to handle in harness and he seems to be house trained and is a real super sleuth when it comes to discovering hidden scents along the way too. Perfect already knows come and sit commands and with a treat in my hand he follows them instantly, catching his reward in mid-air like a pro. Toys aren’t really his thing, not when there’s other dogs to meet and new smells to explore, but he’s happy to make a pit stop for snuggles and with such velvety fur I’m more than happy to oblige with an all over body massage and some gentle face-smooshing. Easy on the eye and easy to love, Perfect aced his behavior assessment and would make a great sidekick for an active family and a home where he can learn new tricks, meet new folks and live life to the full every single day. Hurry in to our Manhattan Care Center where your perfect match might just be…Perfect!
10/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Intact Stray Other notes: During intake, Perfect came into the counselor’s office with loose body and wagging tail; sniffed counselor and allowed for petting. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/11/16 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. His body is soft, likely panting, likely to display high movement between attempts. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: Perfect showed NO concern during the behavior assessment. PLAYGROUP: Perfect has only displayed interest in attempting to mount both male and female dogs persistently. Due to arriving as a stray, history and in home behavior with other dogs is unknown. The behavior department feels that based on behavior observed in our care, Perfect may need time to decompress in a home before following up on behavior around other dogs outside the shelter. It is recommended that Perfect be neutered before resuming introductions to other dogs, however it cannot be said for certain when or if mounting behavior will cease afterward. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/09/16 During his initial medical examination, Perfect tolerated all handling though appeared a bit tense initially. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
