02/28/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/28/16 19:05 BASIC INFO Percy is 1 year and 3 months old. He’s a male American Staffordshire Terrier / Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. His family got him from a breeder and surrendered him due to landlord conflict. SOCIALIZATION Percy is friendly/outgoing with new people. He’s spent time with children and is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. He plays exuberantly with people. Percy is relaxed, playful, tolerant, and plays exuberantly with dogs he meets outside. He looks at cats he passes. He’s never bit anyone. BEHAVIOR Percy doesn’t mind storms. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, wakes him up, bathes him, brushes him, or trims his nails. He’s friendly with strangers who approach his home/family. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Percy’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and high energy. He follows them around. He plays chase and chews bones. He lived inside and slept in an open crate with a dog bed. He ate dry Pedigree and wet Little Cesar’s dog foods. He’s housetrained, doesn’t have accidents, and potties on cement. He’s well-behaved while home alone. He was crated when he was a puppy but doesn’t need to be anymore. He sits when asked. He went for brisk walks and sometimes pulled on his leash. Off-leash, he wanders but comes when called. INTAKE Percy had a loose body, wagging tail, and open mouth while we pet him, scanned him (-), collared him, switched his leashes, and positioned him for pictures. He sat when asked and took treats gently. He stood up, leaned against us, and licked us while we pet him. He pulled on his leash. He often mounted our legs.
03/05/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Percy is the hunky poster child for all you love about Staffordshire Terriers, from his ear-to-ear smile and cuddly barrel body to his can-do attitude and super friendly nature. He’s a beautiful boy with everything going for him…everything except a home. Purchased from a breeder and now ‘let go’ due to issues with the Landlord, young Percy spent just one year enjoying the comforts of pethood but in that time he proved to be a smart, sociable and energetic companion. We’re told he’s crate trained (but now uses his crate only for sleeping), house trained, knows commands for come and sit, plays tolerantly with kids, loves other dogs and merely looks at cats in the street rather than chasing them–well done, Sir! He takes treats gently, never guards his toys or food and I saw firsthand just how relaxed and playful he is around fellow dogs. Percy would make a wonderful companion for a daily trip to the park and I hope he’ll have the chance to enjoy plenty of doggie playdates once settled in with his new family. Currently unaltered and quite stressed out over the loss of his people, Percy can get a bit amorous at times (mostly with the ladies) but once he’s been neutered and has some time to decompress he’ll be feeling a whole lot more mellow. He may still need training to teach him that not everyone likes to be ‘hugged’ in such a way but given his previous success I’ve no doubt this smart cookie will be a very willing pupil, especially if there are treats involved! So put on your running shoes and hurry in to our Manhattan Care Center for a fun date with Percy, he can’t wait to meet you.
03/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Percy pulls a bit on the leash. He was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Percy was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. Percy was surrender to us. Percy’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and high energy. Percy is friendly and outgoing with new people. He looks at cats he passes. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food, treat or toys”. Percy was reported that he appears to be sexual arousal and consistently tried to mount the staff member from bot sex and other dogs”. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: Percy is sexually motivated but will engage in some play when solicited.
02/29/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Percy mostly displays sexually motivated behavior during off leash socialization. He has not yet been introduced to a male while in our care. Based on observation made on Percy during playgroup, a pre-adoption interaction is recommended to ensure compatability with a resident dog. Percy arrived into our care as a stray so in home behaviors with dogs are unknown. When off leash with other dogs, Percy rushes over to the female greeter, and immediately attempts to mount. When introduced to a playful female, he briefly bounces along with her but still attempts to mount. 3/1 update: Percy is sexually motivated but wil lengage in some play when solicited.
