Medical; Scanned negative; BARH – tail wags, allows all handling; S~ 16 years (spay scar seen); Emaciated; low appetite; Ears, nose, throat clear; Teeth – tarter, mild wear.; Coat clean. No flea dirt or parasites noted.; No signs of arthritis/pain on palpation of hips. Vet notes crepidus on both forelimbs.; Eyes – purulent yellow discharge and crusted around both eyes. Schirmer test results 8 right eye, 10 left eye. Fluorescein stain shows no ulceration. Vet dx dry eye and began Optimmune BID x 14.; Heart and lungs auscult clear.
PROFILE:
Pepper is 16 year old spayed Shih Tzu. He was purchased by his owners from a breeder and has been in their care since she was 2 months. She is being surrendered into our facility due to owner no longer having time. There are no known health injuries or problems.
Around strangers she is said to be friendly and gentle when playing with adults. Has spent time with children age 6 and is gentle, relaxed and playful. Pepper has also spent time with a male Yorkie age 6 and was playful with him. With other dogs he is gentle. No experience with cats. There is no known history of her biting another animal or person.
No known behavior issues. During storm or fireworks she isn’t bothered. Friendly when her bowl is being touched while eating. Isn’t bothered when treats or objects are being taken away from her. Friendly when getting a bath and having her nails trimmed. Enjoys having her coat brushed and isn’t bothered when being held or restrained. When unfamiliar people approach the door he barks and run to get owner and wait till they get up. When unfamiliar people approach you he isn’t bothered.
Pepper is described as being playful and gentle with medium activity level. Her favorite thing to do is watch t.v or playing with her toy ball or rattle. When home she likes to follow you around or greet you from a long day. Mostly kept indoors she was free fed dry Pedigree food. Her favorite treats are Cheeze Its! She is house trained and rarely has any accidents within the home. When left alone in the home she is well behaved, when left in the yard she bark when unfamiliar approach so you can know who’s there. She is crate trained and can stay up to 3 hours. For exercise she plays in the yard or go on walks on the leash, in which she doesn’t pull. When off leash he will stay by your side; unless he has to potty on the grass or cement.
During intake Pepper presented a tense body but allowed handling from counselor to be scanned (negative), collared and photographed.
