05/09/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: If you’re looking to spice up your life, the answer’s right in front of your nose–just add a little Peppa! She’s the friendliest, bounciest gal on the block and so accomplished; at only 8 months old she already knows her commands for come, sit, and up (on a bench) and follows them like a pro, especially if there are treats on offer. A great walker, seemingly house trained and always ready with a soft body and a happy tail, Peppa greets new four-legged friends eagerly but politely and enjoys quiet snuggle time with her people too. Like any smart puppy she needs games and toys to keep her mind (and mouth) occupied and boundaries to keep everyone happy during play as she can get a bit overexcited when things turn rough’n’tumble. Fortunately, Peppa’s previous family started her down the right training path and with her intelligence (and love of food!) she’s going to make a very attentive student for her new parents. This cutie has it all, beauty, brains and big heart and with gentle guidance she’ll grow into a rock star adult. Peppa can’t wait to share her special brand of spicy sweetness with your family, ask to meet her today!

05/07/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: 5/5/17 Unaltered Female, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 5/7/17 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, panting, jumps up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Summary: Peppa displayed a high level of activity and movement on her assessment. She jumped on the assessor repeatedly, was social throughout, and allowed all handling. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Peppa has shown brief interest in engaging in play and interacting with dogs at a slow pace. Introductions should be conducted slowly to respectful dogs. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/5/17 During her initial medical exam, Peppa was tense, growling, and snapping. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Peppa so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control: It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach her to control her impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. _X_Fearful: Peppa has displayed fearful behavior (growling, keeping a distance) when uncomfortable. It is important to always go slow and give Peppa the option to walk away from any social interaction. Peppa should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Peppa’s choice to approach a new person or thing.

05/07/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Peppa has shown brief interest in engaging in play and interacting with dogs at a slow pace. Introductions should be conducted slowly to respectful dogs. 5/7: When introduced to the male greeter dog Peppa allows polite greeting and reciprocates with brief sniffs. Peppa becomes overwhelmed with play solicitation and offers strong, defensive correction. 5/8-5/9: Peppa offers brief playful bows to calm dogs. She backs away from reciprocation.
