05/28/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Pepe came to us as a stray, so we don’t have any behavior information other than what has been observed in the shelter environment. Pepe appears to be nervous and fearful in the kennel, but allowed to be picked up and taken out. He walked well on the leash, and was not interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room. He constantly attempted to increase distance during the Look item away from the assessor. He allowed his head to be held softly while maintaining stiff and fearful body language. Pepe had fearful and tense body language during the sensitivity test, but was soft to the touch. He attempted to bite the assessor on the third pass of the tag item. The rest of the handling items were not conducted due to safety and stress level concerns. We recommend Pepe be placed with a New Hope partner at this time. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body fearful and trembling but soft to the touch. His mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy 1: No interest. When off leash with other dogs, Pepe greets, sniffs, and makes some attempts to mount.
