02/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1065539 Peluchine previously lived with 1 adult and children ages 2 and 15 years old. The owner stated Peluchine is playful and somewhat rough towards the children and adults also can be shy at first but warms up after some time. The owner mentioned if someone tries to touch Peluchine food while he’s eating, take a treat, bone or toy away he will snap at that person. The owner describes Peluchine as shy, mellow and affectionate. The owner stated Peluchine is house trained, has a low activity level and well behaved when home alone. It was reported by the owner Peluchine will snap if someone attempts to hold or restrain him. At intake it was reported Peluchine was shy and weary, but he did allow all handling. During SAFER Peluchine came into the assessment room calm and quiet. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Peluchine bared his teeth and tried to bite at the assessor on the Look item. He displayed no interest in the toy item during this portion of the assessment. When on leash for a dog interaction with another dog on leash Peluchine approaches the helper dog with soft body posture and tail neutral. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 5. Dog bares teeth and tries to bite. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
