07/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Peluche came into the care center as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was difficult to handle at intake, not tolerating his collar to be removed. His surrenderer stated that he bites, though we do not have additional details. He snapped and growled during intake. He allowed handling for the medical examination and at the start of the SAFER assessment, but he growled at the end of the squeeze item. This, in combination with his intake behavior and report of snapping/biting by his finder, we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who has a plan to address his behavior and anxiety is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 5. Dog freezes, growls Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Peluche greets briefly, then roams away to keep to himself.
