I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 04/23/2016 from NY 11358, owner surrender reason stated was PET HEALTH.

OK TO DC TRAMADOL AND RIMADYL AS DOG APPEARS VERY COMFORTABLE. FAIR SHORT TERM PROGNOSIS 04/25/16 19:08 VC: Mammary tumor, possible otitis. S/O: BAR, active. Dental disease grade 3/4, halitosis. Otitis externa AU, moderate dark debris, and erythema, ear very sensitive during cleaning. Ingrown dew claw on left front. Cleaned ears, applied mometamax. Sedated w. 0.2ml hydromorphone and 0.2ml dexmedetomidine IV. Clipped/removes ingrown nail. Clipped hair and flushed w dilute chlorhexidine. Digit was very swollen, nail bed was necrotic and communitcated w/ puncture from ingrown nail. A: Geriatric, mammary tumor, otitis externa, dental disease, ingrown nail. P: Will start rimadyl, tramadol, and clavamox. Will be unable to administer ears medications due to behavior, as pearl tries very hard to get away from ear cleaning. Recommend follow-up veterinary care for mass removal and biopsy, geriatric blood work, dental cleaning, and ear cytology to characterize otitis. Prognosis: Fair

04/23/16 12:59 BASIC INFORMATION: Pearl is a spayed 11yr old, white Bull terrier. Pearl was purchased from a breeder & has a mass on her lower abdomen. Pearl has not been to a vet within the past year. Pearl was surrendered to ACC due to owner no longer having enough time & cost of medical services. SOCIALIZATION: Pearl is friendly around strangers and loves getting pet. Pearl has been exposed around 1-14 yr old children, Pearl gets along with children & adults. Pearl has not resided with other animals, previous owner stated Pearl is aggressive towards cats & will lunge, bark & attempt to bite. Pearl has not bitten or scratched another animal or person. Pearl is best described as a loving, affectionate & playful dog. BEHAVIOR: Pearl does not show signs of aggression when owner touches food bowl while she is eating. Owner is able to take bone, toy or any object from her mouth with no problem. Pearl enjoys bathing and grooming, when an unfamiliar person approaches the home, she barks & makes the owner aware. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: Pearl has a high activity level. Owners favorite thinngs of Pearl is, she is extremely affectionate & is always there to greet the owner. She loves to play fetch & would do best in a family home or a single person home with alot of energy & time, Pearl would do best with children 10yrs and above due to her hyper activty. Pearl has been crate trained and does well for up 4 hours. Pearl is familiar with the commands sit, stop & come. For exercise, she loves to go ‘out for brisk walks. Pearl will pull very hard & will give the owner a struggle when walking her, she has been kept mostly indoors, she will go to the yard & is well behaved in the yard. She enjoys eating dry food from any brand. Pearl will go potty on grass. BEHAVIOR UPON INTAKE: Upon intake, Pearl displayed a loose body & an open mouth. Pearl loved to receive attention from the counselor. Pearl allowed all handling & scanned negative.

04/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE

Pearl previously lived with 1 adult and has been exposed to children 1-14 years old. The owner stated Pearl gets along with children and adults. It was reported by the owner Pearl is reactive towards cats she will bark, growl, lunge and attempted to bite them. The owner describes Peral as a loving, affectionate and playful. the owner mentioned Pearl is house trained, crate trained and does well up to 4 hours and well behaved when home alone in the yard. At intake it was reported Pearl was loose and wiggly, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Pearl came into the assessment room very loose and wiggly, she was friendly, affectionate and playful towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Pearl was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Pearl was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Pearl appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter and we recommend no cats in the house hold. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: Pearl greets a playful female with a loose body but becomes overwhelmed by her pushy play solicitations.
04/25/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION

When off leash with other dogs, Pearl approaches and greets with a soft, wiggly body. She offers muzzle licks, a gentle curved presentation and soft bounces but does not engage in play. Pearl also seeks the handlers’ attention. 4/28 update: Pearl greets a playful female with a loose body but becomes overwhelmed by her pushy play solicitations. 5/1 update: Pearl was the helper dog today. She greeted each dog with a soft, wiggly body and was very tolerant of pushy sexually motivated males but does not correct them for their behavior. Pearl does solicit play with other dogs with short bounces and some spins.

Scanned negative BARH: allowed most handling; tried to shake head loose when I tried to give the Bord vacc-IN and clean the ears. 11 yrs old intacted female- no spay tattoo or scar seen. Eyes: clean with no discharge Ears: Moderate debris ( did not allow ear cleaning) Nose:clean with no discharge Teeth: Moderate tartar and staining Dull coat:small scar on top of head.
