05/03/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A little peanut with a lively fun personality! Absolutely stunning in her gleaming deep deep deep brown coat, she smiles, she wags, and she smiles some more. Happy to be out for a walk to go potty, she pulls on her leash, so some leash training may be needed. And because she loves treats (and takes them gently), Peanut should be easy to train with positive reinforcement training. She’s a little hand shy but nothing stops her from wanting to make new friends of all. Off leash, Peanut loves playing with a ball, bounding after it, bringing it back for another throw, sometimes dropping it in my lap but always allowing me to take it out of her mouth. As other dogs approach our pen she runs off to greet them, tail wagging in her doggie hello, and then comes back to me to see if I’m ready to throw the ball again. Peanut sits to wait for the throw, her face lively, her tail wagging, and if I take too long, I get a quick woof to remind me that she’s waiting. Beyond adorable, this little one is ready for a lifetime of fetch, fun and love. Are you going to be the lucky person to bring her home?
05/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Peanut pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Peanut did a lot of jumping up, body checking and mouthy (moderate) with the leash during tag interaction. She took the toy with a soft body language. Peanut show a bit of concern during the tag interaction she became a bit over arousal. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog responds with her tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Peanut greets politely. She offers a few bounces then resumes to explore her surroundings.
