SAFER
Peanut came into our center by a family member after her owner passed away. It is reported for the past few months she lived with an 8 year old child, tolerant. Around other dogs, Family Member reports Peanut is relaxed and plays gently. Behavior around cats is unknown. Family Member reports Peanut is housetrained, knows the commands “sit”, “come”, “down”, “stay” and “give paw”. She is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, excitable and independent, loves playing fetch and loves running in the dog park and in the yard. Peanut was friendly during her initial medical exam and allowed all handling. She walked nicely on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. Peanut held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body relaxed. She stood still during Sensitivity item, mouth closed, body soft, ears back, tail neutral. Peanut followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, head and tail low. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Peanut showed no interest in Toy though this may be due to environment as Family Member reports Peanut loves balls, stuffed toys, and chew bones. She approached the helper dog slowly, head and tail low, investigating and then turning away. The Behavior Team feels Peanut would do well in an Average home. She may benefit initially from a slow approach/slow introduction so she can warm up and relax with her potential new adopters.
