04/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: When we like someone we call them a ‘peach’, so I love that this dog’s name is Peaches, as she is indeed a ‘peach’. Quiet and shy, she lay on her bed most of the day, getting up gently as I unlatched her door and invited her out for a walk. Her coat is a beautiful, clean and soft like velvet orangish color – perhaps like a perfectly ripe peach. She looks like she’s wearing the finest eyeliner, made up by a professional. Peaches, although too thin, is so beautiful! On the street she’s alert, clearly looking for her person as we walk. Off leash in the yard she explores, not quite ready to make friends yet, just getting the “lay of the land”. It’s pretty clear that Peaches is smart, loyal and sweet, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with her. Mostly though, I’m looking forward to watching her walk out the door with her new family. Will it be you? For video, copy-paste link to your browser bar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?
04/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Peaches came in after a member of the public found her as a stray. Finder stated Peaches walked up and started following the Finder home. She was calm during intake, nervous and timid during her initial medical exam. Peaches allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body trembling and a bit tense. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, trembling/a bit tense, lip lick. Peaches was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, focused on exit. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. She showed no interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs Peaches keeps to herself and ignores greeting. The Behavior Team feels Peaches would do best with an Experienced adopter. She may initially benefit from a calm, quiet, structured environment so she can relax and know what to expect. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is trembling and a bit tense; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2.
