03/23/16 21:09 BASIC INFO Paulie is a 2 year old neutered American Bulldog / American Staffordshire Terrier mix. His family adopted him from ACC 5 months ago and returned him due to behavior reasons. SOCIALIZATION Paulie barks at some strangers and growls if they approach and pet him. He’s friendly/outgoing with few strangers. He visited 7 and 8 year old children once and was relaxed, playful, and tolerant with him. He plays exuberantly with adults and children. He barks and whines at other dogs outside. He lived with 2 cats. They sniffed each other often. Paulie bit his owner 4 days ago while she was moving his food bowl. This was his only bite. BEHAVIOR Paulie doesn’t mind storms. He usually allowed his owner to takes his food while he ate but recently bit her when she was moving his bowl. He growls and may snap when his owners take his favorite toy. He doesn’t mind when they move him off furniture, hold/restrain him, or wake him up. He loves being bathed and brushed. He barks and growls at strangers who approach him and his owner while on walks. His family keeps him in a kennel for a few minutes when strangers first come into his home. When he comes out, he’s friendly. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Paulie’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and medium-high energy. He loves belly and butt rubs. He follows his family. He likes kongs (black-extra durable) and chew toys. He plays fetch and chase. He lived inside and slept on a dog bed in a crate or with his owner. He ate dry Blue Buffalo healthy weight food with Alpo wet food and enjoyed dog treats. He’s housetrained, doesn’t have accidents, and potties in grass or dirt. He’s well-behaved while home alone if trash is locked and objects are off the floor; otherwise he might take and chew them. He sleeps while in his crate overnight. He knows sit, come, down, give paw, give other paw, and drop it. He went for brisk walks and played in his fenced yard. He pulls the leash with a collar but doesn’t pull with an Easy Walk harness. INTAKE Paulie had a loose, wiggly body and wagging tail while we pet him, switched his leash, and walked him. He often panted. He closed his mouth and became a little tense while I scanned him (+). Both times I reached towards him with his collar, he closed his mouth, turned to the side to look at me with his ears back. I didn’t proceed with collaring him. He often lied on his tummy with his legs sprawled out.

A volunteer writes: Well helloooo handsome! When I say that gorgeous Paulie is a ‘people magnet’ that’s not just a turn of phrase, he really does attract a crowd! His sunny smile and cute play style during our photo shoot quickly drew a host of admirers, as first one passing volunteer stopped to ooh and ahh…then another…then a third…and finally a smitten staff member joined us too. Within minutes of his debut, Paulie was literally surrounded by love and adoration! He’s a great big mush, soft and easy-going, friendly and open-hearted and boy, does he LOVE his toys! Luckily for me Paulie has no resource guarding issues, and though you’ll have a hard time separating him from his beloved ball, once it’s on the ground I can pick it up for another throw with no worries at all. We have a grand old time running around in the yard, and even share a ‘dance’ together as I hop to one side and Paulie the other…one-two-three-one-two-
