11/29/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Joining us with an outstanding resume of a family dog, Patch was surrendered due to a child in the family developing allergies. He lived with 3 kids, ages 4, 7 and 10, playing gently with them, and more exuberantly with adults, has played at dog parks, and in his first playgroup, engaged and played with the helper dog. We’re also told that he doesn’t guard his things, doesn’t mind bath time, is “very” housetrained, is crate trained, knows ‘sit’ and ‘give paw’, and goes for runs with his former owner. I so enjoyed my time with Patch; he has a lively, fun and affectionate energy, did better with a harness than a leash as he does pull hard when walking, showed off his housetraining skills and his sit, and loved playing with some soft toys. He can amuse himself, tossing the toy around, running to grab it if it goes to far, and just having the best time. As other dogs pass our pen, Patch runs over to greet each one with a cordial wave of his tail, ready to make friends with dogs and handlers alike. Patch’s effervescent personality, playful and affectionate ways are guaranteed to keep you smiling, and I can’t imagine a better lifelong companion than that. Ask to meet him today.
11/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Unaltered, Owner Surrender Previously lived with: Adults, children ages four, seven, and ten Behavior toward children: Relaxed, playful, gentle Behavior toward dogs: Plays exuberantly Behavior toward cats: Unknown FG/RG: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Friendly and playful with a medium activity level Other notes: Upon intake Patch allowed all handling SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/29/16 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed. Tag: 3. Dog becomes very over aroused as soon as tag begins, jumping high and hard and leash biting. Takes a long time to settle. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Patch became very over aroused during tag, immediately when tag began. He was snapping at the leash, jumping up hard, and grabbing the leash. It was difficult to divert his attention and took him a long time to settle. Because of the low threshold for arousal displayed, Patch may benefit best from an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: 11/28: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Patch is initially tense. He begins to engage and run around with the helper dog. Toward the end of the interaction Patch is solely intent on mounting. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/28/16 During his initial medical exam Patch allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL:

11/28/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Patch will engage in running play with female dogs (he has only met males through a barrier and becomes stiff then intensly growls). He also becomes frustrated when he is corrected for mounting and will tense and growl. His owner reports he “has not lived with dogs or cats but has spent time in dog parks and would play exuberant with them.” Based on observations seen in the care center; however, the behavior department recommends not placing Patch into a home with other dogs at this time. 11/28: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Patch is initially tense. He begins to engage and run around with the helper dog. Toward the end of the interaction, Patch is solely intent on mounting. 11/29: Patch engages in play with female dogs, at times attemtping to mount during play. Patch approaches male dogs with a tense body, growling with increasing volume. 12/30: Patch engages in running play with female dogs. 12/1: Patch engages in running chase play. He attempts to mount a female dog. When he is unable to mount her, he begins to become tense and growl.
