11/11/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/11/16 13:36 Basic information: Patch is a 1 year old male American Pit Bull Terrier. His previous owner bought him from a breeder when he was 3 weeks old. He was surrendered because of personal problems. The last time he went to the vet was 12/7/15 and he has no known injuries or health problems. Socialization: Around strangers Patch is friendly and outgoing and exuberant and somewhat rough when he plays with adults. He lived with his 1 year old siser, an american Pit bull terrier and with her he was relaxed and playful and exuberant and gentle at play. Behavior: Patch has never attempted to bite a person or animal. He isnt bothered by storms or fireworks. If his food bowl was taken away from him he would either continue to eat or back away. He became playful if a treat was taken from him. He isnt bothered if he is held or restrained, or disturbed while sleeping. He is afraid if given baths, he attempts to run away. He is friendly when brushed and isnt bothered if his paws are touched. He was friendly if an unfamiliar person approached his previous home or owner. For a New Family to Know: Patch is described as friendly, afectionate, playful, confident, and excitable with a very high activity level. His previous owner lived that he is excitable. When his previous owner was home he would tend to follow her around. He had no toys. He was kept indoors and at night he slept in the hallway. He ate dry Purina. He is house trained but had accidents 2 to 3 times a week when not taken on walks. When left alone he would tend to eat paper, chew on furniuted and scratch the walls Behavoir during intake: Patch barked initially when approached and would jump up as he barked. He allowed me to collar him, pet him and took treats gently.

11/15/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: He’s gorgeous, he’s exuberant, he’s playful, he’s confident, he loves strangers, he loved his sister, with whom he used to live, and he conducts himself like the world is his for the taking. So, far be it from us to giggle that…he’s scared of baths??? Ok, maybe we giggled a little when we learned this, because this guy could not seem more…well, not a guy who’d be scared of a little water. But we’ve all got our stuff, and Lord knows Patch is pretty perfect in all other areas: on top of the stellar behavior we’ve seen in the shelter–he is strong and could us some leash training–his former owner (who had to surrender him because of personal problems) says he’s great about sharing food and treats, he’s house trained, he has no problem being moved out of the way or awakened (more than we can say for most of us), and has a high energy level. We say it’s all high praise indeed but you ain’t seen nothing as cute as Patch trying–and finally succeeding–in getting two tennis balls in his mouth at one time. Please, won’t you come and meet your perfect new playmate???

Force-free, reward based training is recommended.)

11/11/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION

When off leash with a female dog Patch is social and playful. He offers bows, spins and paw slaps to solicit play. He arrived to the care center with his female littermate and the owner reports with her “he was relaxed and playful and exuberant and gentle at play.” The behavior department feels that Patch could go to a home with another playful dog.
