07/15/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/15/17 19:13 Basic Info: Paris A1116696 is a 10yr old spayed female tricolor small-medium size breed dog who was given to the owner as a gift from a family member 10yrs ago and is being surrendered due to moving to where pets aren’t allowed and no one in the home being able to care for her. Paris was last seen by a veterinarian a few months ago and currently has an issue using her hind legs and a skin issue on her left thigh which haven’t been addressed medically. Socialization: Around strangers Paris is friendly/outgoing. She’s spent time with children ages 4yrs & up and was gentle, exuberant, relaxed & playful with them & the adults in the home. Paris hasn’t bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Paris isn’t bothered by the following: having her food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being moved off of furniture, being held/restrained, having her nails trimmed, being bathed (but recently due to her ailments she’s a little uncomfortable with bathing; she’ll growl and or snap (hasn’t made physical contact) or if someone unfamiliar approaches the home/family member. Paris hasn’t been disturbed while sleeping/resting. For A New Family To Know: Paris is described as friendly, affectionate, playful (not so much anymore) & mellow with a low-medium activity level. She enjoyed playing & now likes to rest. When the owner is home Paris followed them around. She enjoyed ball, squeaky & stuffed toys (not so much anymore). Paris is a mostly indoor only dog who’s walked 2x a day. When walked she doesn’t pull on her leash. Paris sleeps with the grandfather on her own bed. She eats Pedigree dry dog food 2-3x a day and knows “sit”. Paris is well behaved when left home alone and uses wee wee pads as well. Intake Behavior: Paris allowed all handling. She allowed to be scanned (+), collared & taken pictures of (I took a kennel picture of Paris to keep her comfortable due to her not being able to stand or walk much). Paris was picked up/carried and placed into a kennel with ease.

The behavior department believes paris would benefit best from placement with a New Hope Rescue who can meet her needs medically and then assess behavior once she is in a stable environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Paris to new and unfamiliar situations. Paris appears to be calm, she has allowed all handling in shelter without any issue. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/15/17 During her initial medical exam, Paris allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Paris is described as having a medium-low level of activity. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Due to her current medical condition, Paris should be placed with a New Hope partner. who can meet her needs medically and then assess behavior once she is in a stable environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Paris to new and unfamiliar situations. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Paris’ previous owner noted that she growls and snaps when people approach her home or family. We recommend only force-free, reward-based training methods for Paris as more aversive techniques are likely to increase fear and increase the risk of aggression.
