02/18/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/18/16 18:28 Paprika is a 2 year old black and white female american pitbull terrier who arrived as a stray surrender. Upon intake Paprika was receptive to introduction with a loose body and wagging tail. Paprika was loose for handling but did vocalize with some whining and counselor was able to scan for microchip (negative) collar and photograph. Paprika walks well on leash and is responsive to guidance but at times could be resistant but would walk with encouragement.
02/26/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Oh my goodness. If someone doesn’t come and adopt Paprika soon, I’m going to have to bring her home myself. What a quirky and endearing little sweetheart. Paprika has short little legs, and her shy nature makes her hold her body even lower– the whole time we were walking, she stayed right next to my feet and even ran in circles around me. Not because she was energetic, but because she didn’t seem to know where to go without me! I swear she wouldn’t have even gone to the bathroom if I hadn’t walked her over there, she was so hesitant to leave my side. I felt like Mary Poppins with a little kid running around in my skirts. I think Paprika would be happiest with a calm owner who projects confidence and comfort, and can give her lots of attention and affection. She is a little bit shy at first, but Paprika has lots of love to share. Another volunteer writes: This is the sweetest bundle of Paprika ever! She stays so close on leash it’s impossible not to nearly trip over her. And she’s so submissive that when you do, she’s the one that apologizes! She is shy and nervous, but with a little time and treats (her favorite) she warms up to be wiggly and quietly affectionate. She’ll gently prop her paws on my lap and lick my hands when I pet her. She was found with a male dog, and when another dog entered the pen adjacent to us she seemed to really come out of her shell! She’s very quiet in her cage (drawing attention to herself isn’t her thing!) and seems housebroken. Please come meet this lovely girl at Brooklyn ACC!
02/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Paprika came to us as a stray; so we don’t have any other behavioral information other than what has been observed in the shelter. She had nervous and fearful body language when entering the behavior room. After collaring her Paprika seemed to warm up a bit to the assessor, but still had nervous body language. Paprika allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. She did have stiff and tense body language during some of the assessments including on the second squeeze attempt. She showed no interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. The behavior department believes that Paprika can go to a home with an experienced adopter and no young children. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is tense and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body fearful, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back her paw. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Paprika greets with a low, wiggly body. She enters the pen nervously with a tucked tail and raised hackles. Paprika appears to have some sensitivity with physical interaction with the other dog. She offers bows and bounces but avoids further interactions other than appeasing lip licks.
02/21/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR

Paprika appears to have some sensitivity with physical interaction with the other dog. She engages in bouncy play with a couple of chest bumps and is tolerant of a sexually motivated male.
